Sadly, ANU is not a rogue actor in the Australian university sector. Executive malfeasance, a lack of transparency, and the intimidation of union reps has become situation normal. This is why governance reform is urgently needed. @NTEUnion

‘I was elected as an academic staff representative on Council in May 2025 and yesterday I tended my resignation from that role…because of my concerns about governance practices within the Council.’ – Dr Francis Markham Watch highlights from the hearing: youtu.be/rRgLvirLKg0

@JeanniemarieBl1 Powerful words - how can we be surprised so few blow the whistle or speak up? It’s not from lack of integrity, You and other whistleblowers deserved so much better.

@PrognosticChats Just came here to say it is possible to find that unicorn, as impossible as it feels, I found mine!

@DrShaneRRR Awesome images!! Where did you buy from - can you buy in Australia?

@phillipdawson I believe required to report per state government guidelines eg. Page 16 here treasury.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/…

Anybody know how these figures are arrived at? Is it just the activity codes assigned on the accounting system? Or are they delving deeper? There's some consulting that's obvious (e.g. hiring the big consulting firms to do a review) but then some that might be hidden elsewhere

Universities are places of excellence, knowledge, expertise. Why are executives paying $735M for consultants? Consultants with nepotistic links doing fuck all. Do universities seriously not have the expertise within their ranks to do the necessary work?! drive.google.com/file/d/1otDKyq…

@chantz_y I’ve coined “cacoughony” for this phenomenon. I was in a park yesterday and watched a young guy stand bent over unable to catch his breath coughing, tearing up, for several minutes. This is not normal and it’s wrong to normalise it

@lifebloodau I would love to donate. But I can’t because your donation centres are full of covid and you do not require anyone to take any precautions! Seems like a bit of a vicious cycle you’ve got there!
English

As many as 1,000 donor chairs have sat empty each day due to people calling in sick. We will struggle to meet patient needs if we can’t find new donors to fill the gaps. Help us reach those new donors by sharing this post. #lifebloodau donateblood.page.link/urGt

An excellent article about our latest work connecting CO2 with virus aerostability.
This article goes into some of the challenges that come with conducting transformative research during a pandemic. If you wondered what my last few years were like:

@BretlynB And so, surely it would drive up # people on bridging visas or overstaying
English

@BretlynB This is how you end up with students at less well recognised, smaller or regional providers who are totally uncommitted to their course/provider and unprepared to be living there (eg their family members are interstate) but needed a way in to Australia. Vulnerable to exploitation

@UWankings You should see what Australian HE leadership salaries are like

@NjbBari3 @drstip @qldhealth Setting aside whether his study was valid at all, don’t his findings in fact suggest we need to know a LOT more about ALL post viral infection so we can help people experiencing it (whether they know it or not)?

@beneltham @DamienCahill8 Here’s a fun game. Search recent Facebook posts with the name of the university. Often find photos from vendors showing off their catering spreads, customised branded gift packages, photography etc for splashy university events that 99% of staff will never hear about

Australian vice-chancellors are the new aristocracy. At Monash Uni, Margaret Gardner's going-away party at the NGV cost $127k, and featured Kate Ceberano and the unveiling of a portrait painting. theage.com.au/national/victo…

@jonkudelka Once had a memorable sleepless night due to elderly woman in ward across the hall shouting “mary! Mary! Mary Mary Mary Mary! Hairy Mary!”

@AlisonIsBossy That is uncannily similar to this Australian children’s tv character, and no, I’m not even joking abc.net.au/news/2018-10-0…
