Biodigesters transform organic waste into clean energy and organic fertilizer, embedding circular economy principles that reduce methane emissions, improve sanitation, and enhance soil productivity. This approach turns waste management into a climate solution while creating income opportunities, particularly for women and youth engaged in waste aggregation and organic fertilizer enterprises. Improved soil fertility increases food production and dietary diversity, strengthening household resilience to climate shocks and food insecurity. #Bioenergy #SustainableFarming #biodigester #GenderEquality #lowcarbon #ClimateResilience #GreenJobs youtube.com/shorts/lj4NRa4…

Biodigesters capture methane emissions from livestock manure and organic waste streams, preventing the release of a greenhouse gas over 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide. By converting methane into clean biogas for cooking and energy use, households reduce their carbon footprint while gaining reliable, low-cost energy. This intervention reduces women’s unpaid labor associated with fuelwood collection, improves household safety, and creates time for income-generating activities. At the same time, bio-slurry enhances soil fertility, increases crop yield, and improves household nutrition and food security—demonstrating a scalable, community-driven climate mitigation solution for the future. #climatemitigationpractices #ClimateResilience, #lowcarbon, #womendevelopment, #betterlivelihoods

We are excited to be in Kiambu County for a transformative two-day training on the Use of Biogas (PUB), under the African Biodigester Component (ABC). This initiative, implemented by GIZ and SNV in partnership with Africa Bioenergy Programs Ltd (ABPL), aims to empower Kenya’s clean energy workforce. Fifty biodigester technicians from five counties will gain hands-on skills to retrofit gasoline engines and install biogas-powered appliances, including chaff cutters, generators, and milk pasteurizers. This training supports ABC’s goal of expanding the adoption of over 20,000 small and 250 medium biodigesters, enhancing technical capacity, and promoting green enterprise development. Together, we are paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future in Kenya! #biogas #biodigester #ABC-K #renewablenegy

Earlier this month, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) Energy and Petroleum Board, led by Chair Bernard Osawa, held a crucial Ministerial Stakeholder Forum with the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, headed by Cabinet Secretary Hon. Opiyo Wandayi. This important gathering addressed pressing sectoral challenges and aimed to create collaborative solutions, reinforcing a unified front in preparation for the upcoming Presidential Roundtable. For the first time, bioenergy issues were represented at the Cabinet Secretary Roundtable by @KevinKinusu of ABPL. He advocated for fiscal support and an enabling environment for carbon trading to enhance the attractiveness and sustainability of bioenergy ventures. These measures would lower project costs, improve returns, and boost competitiveness against informal and fossil-based alternatives. Access to carbon finance would recognize bioenergy's environmental value, driving innovation and sustainable practices. A supportive carbon market and fiscal policies could stimulate private investment, create rural jobs, and position bioenergy as a key player in Kenya’s green growth agenda. ABPL chairs the bioenergy working group of the Kenya Renewable Energy Association (KEREA). #energypolicy #carboncredit #ABPL #bioenergy
