Today, led by @KCCAED@Buzeki_Sharifah, we had a field tour of some of the ongoing Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area — Urban Development Program (GKMA-UDP) to assess progress. #KCCAatWork progressing well on Kira (Nakawa Division), Mukalazi and Muganzilwazza (Kawempe Division), Bemba and Cape Villas/Wavamunno (Makindye Division) roads. Improving these roads will enhance economic productivity and social wellness by reducing severe traffic congestion within the city. #ForALivableCity

Statement on Status of Unauthorized Demolition along Sebana Road On 7th March 2026, unauthorized demolition of structures occurred at Nakivubo Place along Sebana Road. Following this incident, the Inter-Agency Technical Committee on the redevelopment of Nakivubo Channel was tasked to conduct a site visit, assess the remaining structures, and advise the Executive Director on their management. @KCCAUG wishes to inform traders and the general public that, based on technical assessments by the Committee overseeing the Nakivubo Drainage Channel project, the remaining structures at St. Balikuddembe Market, as well as another structure along the Channel that had been partially demolished last week by unauthorized individuals, were found to be destabilized and unsafe. The Committee recommended their controlled removal to protect traders, customers, and the surrounding community. Acting on this recommendation and following an application for demolition, KCCA issued a Conditional Demolition Permit for the affected structures. To safeguard lives and property, the area will remain fully cordoned off while works are carried out. On 14th March 2026, @KCCAED@Buzeki_Sharifah convened a stakeholder meeting with market leaders and the surrounding community at Nakivubo Settlement Primary School. During the meeting, she presented the technical report, addressed community concerns, and clarified that @KCCAUG has no immediate plans to remove St. Balikuddembe Market. Any future developments will be communicated through official channels. @KCCAUG reassures traders and city residents that this action is purely a safety measure. No new commercial structures will be erected at the site. Instead, a stormwater retention facility will be constructed to improve drainage from the market into Nakivubo Channel and sustainably manage flash floods in the surrounding area. Importantly, the land remains a channel reserve, and the boundaries of St. Balikuddembe Market are clearly demarcated. The Authority remains committed to protecting traders and ensuring that all city markets are safe, well-managed, and properly organized, in line with our vision #ForALivableCity.

As we were going about our our routine inspection tours around town, we bumped into this team of very young and vibrant lads who were enjoying the open streets while vibing to good music. The joy on their faces, the bounce in their step knowing they could partake of a cleaner, greener and more attractive environment as they honed their talent is definitely worth our every effort to deliver a livable city for all of us. Cleaner and greener open streets/spaces come with endless opportunities and possibilities for the young and old alike. This is #KCCAatWork #ForALivableCity. 📸 🎥 👉🏾 📱

Statement on the demolition of a St Balikudembe Market Structure At approximately 10:00 p.m, in the night of 7th March 2026, persons yet to be identified descended upon a structure forming part of St. Balikudembe Market, located at the boundary of Nakivubo Channel along Sebana Road, and demolished it without authorization. This reckless demolition, carried out under the cover of darkness, was done without obtaining demolition permit from the City Authority. @KCCAUG, in collaboration with sister agencies, is actively working to salvage what remains of the structure and ensure that those responsible for this destruction of a public good are brought to book. Operators of the two machines which were being used to demolish have been arrested by the police and investigations into the matter have commenced. #ForALivableCity

Last night, our @KCCAUG sanitation teams worked tirelessly across the Central Business District scrubbing and washing key roads like the Grand Imperial Roundabout, removing dirt and debris to ensure a cleaner, Livable City. By morning, the exercise extended to the Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) corridor along Luwum Street and Namirembe Road. Pedestrian walkways and cycling lanes were cleaned, cab markings repainted, and the green restored to promote air quality and beauty of Kampala. Beyond the city centre, under the Weyonje campaign, we joined the community in Kasubi Parish Zones I & II for cleaning and sanitation sensitization. Together, we promoted proper waste disposal, identified full toilets needing urgent attention, and evacuated accumulated garbage, all to protect public health and dignity. I call on residents, businesses, and boda boda riders to: - Respect NMT corridor. - Dispose of waste responsibly. - Work hand-in-hand with us to keep our city clean, safe, and dignified. Together, we can build a Kampala we are all proud of.
