Our guild came to the bargaining table in good faith this summer. We had tough, but important conversations with corporate and local management, fought hard for our members and came to an agreement that protects them and the important journalism The Star provides our community.

Employees from the Star-T, @KCNewsGuild and @OneHeraldGuild called McClatchy out on this hypocrisy today. In response, a rep for McClatchy claimed that it will not make changes during bargaining out of “respect for the bargaining process.”

Eleven days ago, @McClatchy sent an email to staff. “Inclusion and diversity are priorities and imperatives at McClatchy,” our CEO said. But what @tonywhunter failed to mention is McClatchy’s latest tactic for bargaining: Using Juneteenth as a bargaining chip.
