The Kenya Fishing Industries Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mikah O. Nyaberi, alongside KFIC staff, undertook a site visit of the Kipini, Kichwa cha Kati, and Ngomeni Fish Landing Sites to assess the status of ice production and operational readiness at the facilities.

Addressed Kenya’s Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consuls-General at the 19th Ambassadors Conference on Opportunities in the Oceans and Blue Economy at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi. I emphasized that the oceans and the Blue Economy remain a key pillar of Kenya’s foreign policy, underscoring their strategic role in advancing national interests. Also took the opportunity to present the newly launched National Blue Economy Strategy 2025–2030 highlighting the bankable investment opportunities identified within the framework, and urging envoys to champion these opportunities and actively promote investment in the sector. I was accompanied by the team from the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries @Blue_Economy_F Dr. Davies Makilla, Director of Fisheries and Blue Economy; Dr. Paul Orina, Director General of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute @KmfriResearch ; and Ms. Daisy Muriuki, Ag. Director General of the Kenya Fisheries Service @kefs_kenya .

KU Coastal & Marine Resource Management students visited KFIC for hands-on exposure in coastal fisheries. They learned about vessel technology, target species, fish processing, jetty services, and sustainable fisheries management. Hosted by the KFIC team led by Mr. Musila.

The UVUVI I vessel was successfully handed over under the leadership of Dr. Mikah Nyaberi, PhD, CEO, alongside other officers, with support from Kenya Shipyard Limited. The successful sea trial of the 10-tonne capacity vessel signifies readiness for operational deployment.

We also explored practical ways to enhance the efficiency and responsiveness of government service delivery across the Coast region. The discussions underscored our shared commitment to collaborative leadership and people-centered solutions that promote safety, dignity and sustainable development for all residents. 2/2

Today, I made an impromptu visit to Bandari Maritime Academy in Mombasa to assess progress on the construction of the Maritime Survival Training and Certification Centre. The project, implemented by the State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs, aims to equip trainees with essential skills and personal survival techniques to counter navigation challenges and distress at sea. I directed the contractor to ensure completion within or ahead of the contractual timeline.

KFIC duty allocation and FY 2025/2026 Performance Contract review meeting, chaired by Mr. James M. Ndiritu alongside other officers. The productive engagement is set to shape and enhance PC performance for the year ahead.
