Conor McGregor just announced his latest beverage venture at The Beverage Forum tonight.
MAC Energy. His own brand. Not a partnership, not an ambassador deal, his own. And he’s positioning it around a single functional ingredient: 5g of BHB, a ketone that the body uses as an alternative fuel source to glucose. He claims the formulation is patented.
If that holds up, it’s a genuinely differentiated play in a category that’s been running on caffeine and B vitamins for 30 years.
The launch venue is also deliberate. The Beverage Forum isn’t a consumer event, it’s 1,300+ founders, retailers, distributors and investors in one room.
McGregor knows how to build and exit a beverage brand. Proper No. Twelve went from zero to a reported 600M$ exit in a few years. He’s not new to this.
The energy drink category is $90B annually and brutally consolidated at the top. Red Bull, Monster and Celsius own the shelf. Breaking in requires either a massive marketing budget or a genuinely different reason to exist.
A ketone-based energy drink with a patent claim is at least an interesting reason to exist.
Details are thin, no website, no distribution announced yet. But the timing and the venue tell you this is serious, not just a vanity launch.
Worth watching.
