the reason why this keeps happening, in every country the right-wing wins, is because once they get into power and see the actual numbers regarding birth rates and the economy and the labour force, they realize if they do as they promised they would destroy the country.

@Obamna_eth Millennials then? No, you would also not convince scientists that Gen Alpha will have a lower life expectancy than Millennials, especially since the article you seem most convinced by a) is only about americans and b) puts blame pretty squarely on the opioid epidemic

@Obamna_eth They don't actually say what you thought they did, I was just reading through them. I don't think you could get any scientist to say "Gen Alpha will have a lower life expectancy than Gen Z", especially with the links you provided. A few of which are about other generations.

This misunderstands how moral reasoning works. What the median voter wants is naive but straightforward: let the good people in and keep the bad people out. The Dems will never—no matter how much “tough talk” they do—be trusted as the party of “keep the bad people out.” If they want to win on immigration, they need to make “let the good people in” the more salient way of evaluating the immigration issue, and they need to highlight how the GOP is brutalizing good people and ejecting them from the country. Note that when the GOP took charge on this issue and dominated favorability, they didn’t do it by talking about “compassion”—they didn’t do the reverse of what Adam is describing here. They relentlessly hammered the “keep the bad people out” part of the equation and emphasized every emotionally-loaded, morally-salient example they could to paint the Dems as letting the bad people in. If Dems were smart, they’d do the inverse of this. Where you need to protect your flank—if you’re the Dems, “keeping the bad people out,” or if you’re the GOP, “letting the good people stay/in”—is when you *govern*. You need to *not raise the salience of the framing that benefits your opposition through visible, emotionally-salient examples of failure*. Dems probably do need to *deliver* border security to win on immigration in the long run, but they really shouldn’t *talk* about it nearly so much, because they’ll *never* be the trusted party on that issue and they’re just doing the GOP’s work for them by constantly raising the salience of the “keep the bad people out” part of the median voter’s immigration dual mandate
Adam Jentleson@AJentleson

We are a nation of immigrants--but come the right way or not at all. It's time for Democrats to regain the public trust on immigration--an issue we used to win on. The American people want strong enforcement and fairness. It's not either/or, it has to be both. Here's our plan.

"What if there's a catastrophic civilizational reversion to the Stone Age" being one of the big objections to nuclear power is so funny like opposing building hospitals on the grounds of "what if one of the doctors spontaneously contracts anthrax and infects the whole city?"

Now show us 10,000 years worth of safely stored waste and how you communicate to a society 500 years into the future that no longer speaks the same language that this is an incredibly dangerous material.

The actual crisis of masculinity is the leftist dudes who all live in big cities and work comfortable professional jobs and feel such a crushing insecurity about their manhood that they fall for every candidate with the aesthetics of the Brawny Towel man to compensate

@DefenderOfBasic It's fun! I haven't read any of the SCP stuff. The climax and ending are the worst part, but there's a lot of good small neat vignettes leading up to that.
