I'll say this... I'm not surprised many people here on X are celebrating the termination of several great journalists at WGN. Most of those posts are from anonymous keyboard warriors, typing and replying feverishly with slop, it's impressive to be honest. But Chicago has prided itself in true *local* journalism. And Chicagoans have gone to their favorite channels for news for generations. Whether it be "Chicago's Very Own" or @ABC7Chicago or any other station here. And these terminations set a dangerous precedent. Those who don't live here will applaud the loss of these great people, many who are household names in this city. I just want to wish all those fine former employees well. I'm hopeful all of you find success again. Just know our newsroom sends love and support. We know it's a brutally tough day for those who remain at WGN and we are thinking of you too. Don't let the slop here on X bring us down. Let them scream into the void as you'll now see in the replies below this post. Local journalism is not dead but it's no doubt changing rapidly. We are not going anywhere anytime soon! 🇺🇸

I won't speak to the others let go from WGN on this list, bit I am a bit saddened to hear of @BronaghTumulty being laid off. I had a 20-minute, face-to-face conversation with Ms. Tumulty in 2024 and found her to be warm and personable. I hope Bronagh lands on her feet. chicagotribune.com/2026/02/23/wgn…

On behalf of the city of Chicago, we’d like to thank Canada for letting our boy get some rest instead of being a part of that team.

NEW: Chicago has just over two weeks left to pass a city budget. The clock is ticking. Much of the budget drama has centered around Mayor Brandon Johnson’s demand for a controversial “head tax,” which would bring in an estimated $82 million. But far less attention has been paid to a move with a far greater impact on the budget: the mayor’s proposed $1 billion sweep of Tax Increment Financing districts, or TIFs. It is impossible to understand the current budget battle—and the record-breaking property tax increases that just hit Chicago homeowners—without first understanding TIFs. In this week’s edition of The Last Ward, we dive into a critically important part of the budget process that most voters don’t understand. And how political leaders are taking advantage of that ignorance to pass back-door property tax hikes, costing homeowners thousands of dollars a year. This is the truth about TIFs: Chicago’s secret property tax hikes ⬇️ thelastward.org/p/the-truth-ab…

This was one of my favorite things about watching Bulls games with my Dad during my childhood. Don't worry, this intro was a real thing back then, in case anyone chooses to share it 😆 😄

@Daniel_Rapaport Pretty sad they can’t do it. But right now it’s painful to watch what we can see.

Pretty astounding that, in 2025, there isn't an option for fans at home to watch a live stream of every individual match at the Ryder Cup. Even a paid option. The Masters does this with all 18 holes. There are only 4 groups on the course at Bethpage Black.

@Super70sSports You summed it up perfectly. What a glorious summer it was. Great time to be a kid and a Cubs fan. RIP Ryno.

Super Sky Point to Ryne Sandberg, my favorite second baseman of all time. I will never forget the countless hours tuned into WGN with Harry Caray and Steve Stone during those beautiful childhood summers that lasted forever. Before we knew how fast time actually flies and that our heroes don’t live forever. He could hit, he could field, and he did it all with class. Ernie Banks may be Mr. Cub but Ryno capably took that mantle for my generation. Somewhere in my heart it’ll always be 1984, Harry will always be three sheets to the wind while looking for blondes in the bleachers between pitches, and Ryne Sandberg will always get the clutch hit or make the great defensive play to save the day. That’s how I remember it because that’s how it was. Nobody ever wore Cubbie blue better. St. Peter, don’t throw this man fastballs. But I’m sure Bruce Sutter already told you that. #RIP

There is a short list of people in this world who are, and shall forever be, connected to WGN-TV. Ryne Sandberg was one them. Rest in peace, Ryno. wgntv.com/sports/cubs/cu…

Chicago City Council members, please VOTE NO on this reckless $830 million bond deal. There is no need to rush this through council today. 99% of the city rightfully opposes this insanity. Go back to the drawing board & address capital needs responsibly. chicago.suntimes.com/editorials/202…

Chicagoans, the Parking Meter Fiasco resulted in $1.5 billion in revenue for the city & incensed voters. Today's 20 year interest-only $830 Million Bond Boondoggle will COST taxpayers upwards of $2 BILLION. Let that sink in. Insist your alderman votes NO! susanamendoza.com/opt-ed-city-co…

In 2009, 40 aldermen went along with a bad lease that gave the City of Chicago $1.25 Billion in one year, while losing control of all parking meter revenue for the following 99 years. Five members voted against the lease. In 2021, Lori Lightfoot bullied aldermen & lied to the Black Caucus in order to win over 41 aldermen for approval of a $3.7 Billion borrowing plan for infrastructure that was supposed to last through 2026. Eight members voted against the new debt spending. Tomorrow, City Council will again have to decide if we are again going to choose short-term cash for long-term pain? Which aldermen will have the strength to say no?
