Under the blazing summer sun, while the city moves on, Kolkata Traffic Police personnel continue to stand steadfast at crossings and busy intersections, tirelessly performing their duties to keep citizens safe and traffic flowing smoothly.
In a heartfelt gesture of care and solidarity, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, Shri Ajay Nand, IPS, along with other senior officers, today distributed ORS, water bottles, umbrellas, and sunglasses to traffic personnel on duty across the city.
A small token of appreciation for the unwavering commitment, endurance, and selfless service of those who brave the heat every single day for Kolkata.

Empowering Young Women Through Self-Defence Training
With an aim to promote confidence, safety and self-reliance among young women, the Community Policing Wing of Kolkata Police today organised a Self-Defence Training Workshop for SC/ST students of ‘Rani Rashmoni Chhatri Niwas Central Hostel for Girls’, Alipore, at Hastings House Ground from 06:00 hrs to 08:30 hrs.
The workshop is designed to equip the students with practical self-defence skills, enhance situational awareness and encourage mental resilience. The training programme will continue till 23.05.2026 under the guidance of trained instructors of Kolkata Police.

Swift Detection of Snatching Case; Accused Arrested and Stolen Gold Chain Recovered
In a swift breakthrough, Kolkata Police successfully detected a snatching case registered under Parnashree PS Case No. 290/2026.
The incident involved the snatching of a gold neck chain with pendant from an elderly woman during the early hours of 16.05.2026 in the Parnashree area.
Acting promptly during investigation, police arrested Ricky Singh (28), resident of Behala Govt. Quarter, Block-4 under Parnashree PS. The stolen gold neck chain along with the pendant was successfully recovered from his possession.

Acting on specific information, Kolkata Police arrested Satyabrata Basu Roy (28), resident of Niranjan Pally, Kolkata, under the jurisdiction of Bansdroni Police Station.
During the operation, two improvised country-made semi-automatic firearms along with four live cartridges were recovered and seized from his exclusive possession.
In this connection a specific case has been registered under Arms Act at Bansdroni PS. Further investigation is being carried on.

In a major success against Left Wing Extremism, STF Kolkata Police, apprehended yesterday Sraddha Biswas @ Bela @ Asha @ Dipa @ Panchami @ Sandhya (55), a Regional Committee Member of the banned CPI(Maoist), carrying a reward of ₹15 lakh, declared by the Jharkhand Government. She is wanted in about 23 cases registered in Jharkhand.
In another significant development, CPI(Maoist) Zonal Committee Member Madhai Patra @ Samar Da @ Subhas @ Sujoy (53) surrendered before Shri Ajay Nand, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata after renouncing the path of violent extremism following nearly three decades of armed struggle. He also appealed to his fellow cadres to renounce violence and to return to the mainstream for a better future.

Today, while on duty at the Brigade Ground during the swearing-in ceremony, Shri Saikat Ghosh, IPS, DC SED, noticed a visibly distressed young boy, dressed in an orange t-shirt wandering helplessly through the crowd after getting separated from his father.
Acting with care and promptness, Shri Saikat Ghosh, DC SED, contacted the boy’s father using a mobile number recalled by the child, and ensured their safe reunion shortly thereafter.

During a search, two country-made single-shot firearms along with one live cartridge were recovered and seized from his possession as per law.
This is in reference to Hastings PS Case No. 21/2026 under Sections 25(1)(a)/29 of the Arms Act. Further legal action is in progress.

On 05.05.2026, acting on credible source information, a team of ARS, DD, Kolkata Police apprehended one accused, Md. Erfat (33), S/o Late Md. Samad, resident of Topsia Road South, under Topsia PS.
He was intercepted near PC Connector, Topsia Road South at around 22:35 hrs. During the search, one country-made single-shot firearm along with four live cartridges was recovered from his possession.
A case under sections 25(1)(a)/29 of the Arms Act has been registered at Topsia Police Station. Further legal action is underway.

Yesterday evening, a law and order problem arose in parts of Topsia and Tiljala under the South-East Division, during which certain miscreants vandalised public property etc. Prompt and effective intervention by the local police brought the situation under control immediately.
Strict legal action has been initiated in connection with the incident. Two cases have been registered at Tiljala and Topsia Police Stations under relevant provisions of the BNS, PDPP Act, and WBMPO Act. So far, 40 accused persons have been arrested.
The situation is fully under control and adequate police deployment remains in place in the affected areas. Citizens are advised not to believe or circulate fake news, rumours, or inflammatory content on social media. Strict legal action will be taken against rumour mongers and anyone attempting to disturb public peace and harmony.
