Shelbourne FC Academy@ShelsAcademy
A historic month for the club doesn’t stop here as European football comes to the Academy for the first time this September.
As we all try to keep our feet on the ground after what has been a historic month for the club, the European excitement is about to reach fever pitch for the Academy also.
The prize for our u17 2024 National league winning team was a place in the 2025 UEFA Youth league. Kieth Roche’s young reds created history last season going the whole season undefeated, the first team to do so in an underage National league campaign. As a result, that meant qualification as a domestic champion into the prestigious UEFA Youth league.
The competition is for players born 2006 and younger, meaning the squad will be made up with a mix of our current u20 & u17s team. The team will be led by Academy Director Colm Barron and the management team of last year’s u17 league winners Keith Roche & Robbie Mullen.
Shelbourne enter the competition in Round 1 of the domestic Champions path. Rounds one two & three are all two legged straight knockout affairs. No Irish team has ever advanced past round 2, a feat that the young red will try to vanquish. The prize for advancing past round 3 is a place in the Champions league knockout stages where only the best of the best play.
Academy Director Colm Barron will head to Geneva on Monday September 1st for the draw which takes place on Monday evening 18:00. Round 1 leg 1 will take place on Wednesday September 17th with the second leg taking place on October 1st.
The home tie of round 1 will be played in Tolka Park, kick off time and opposition to be confirmed.
