Today we remember Daniel Ellsberg, who distributed the top-secret Pentagon Papers in 1971. In his final years, Dan became a treasured part of our community, sharing his wisdom and commitment to truth-telling as one of our nation’s foremost activists. bit.ly/3NBxfsF

Bittersweet Commencement today. Awed by the accomplishments of our graduates & inspired by their stories, but also acutely aware that this was my last time hearing them as chancellor. These years have meant more to me than I can express. Thank you all, and as always, GO UMASS!

2/3 Over the last week, our Turkish and Syrian students, scholars, faculty and staff have shared stories of hope, grief and of determination to unite as a community. The university is providing a number of support programs to all who wish to use these services.

1/3 The ongoing crisis in Turkey and Syria in the wake of catastrophic earthquakes is truly staggering. Watching the rescue and recovery efforts thousands of miles away from Amherst, I am deeply aware that members of our UMass community have also suffered devastating losses.
