Die kommunalen Wohnungsunternehmen (KWU) in Deutschland waren 2022 deutlich kleiner als private Wohnungsunternehmen und hatten eine niedrigere Eigenkapitalquote. Besonders niedrig war die Quote bei den KWU in Berlin. GEWOBAG mit einer Quote unter 5% war sehr stark überschuldet.
