NEWS: In his proposed FY2024 budget @POTUS supports an additional $50 million increase for civics education. Youth can and will drive change in our democracy.

An entrepreneur, philanthropist and social activist, Madam C.J. Walker was one of the first self-made female American millionaires. She built a hair care company, which also gave her sales agents an income of their own. Walker was a supporter of the YMCA and the NAACP.

William Hunton began his Y work in 1888 at a “Colored YMCA” in Virginia. He worked among soldiers in the Army camps during the Spanish-American War and in developing Student YMCAs on Black campuses throughout the South. He went on to help build YMCAs for other Black communities.
