My contribution to this name discourse is that women should stop referring to their last names as “their father’s name.” It is your name. Your identity has been built around it for years. Your certificates carry it. Your achievements are attached to it. Even if family relationships become strained or completely severed, nobody can take that name away from you. Na you get am.

Imagine working and contributing financially to the home with the certificate you got in your daddy’s house. Can never be me. I changed everything to my husband’s name, down to the ones I got in nursery. May God bless our homes

Seriously lol. And when money is used to pressure a partner into doing something tied to identity, autonomy or obedience, we may classify that as financially abusive or at least a financially coercive behaviour.

I’m sorry about your loss. Accept my condolences. That been said, We Nigerians don't need to put emotion into everything and project personal pain. This message from Leadway is clearly a general marketing broadcast about planning for funeral expenses. It wasn’t targeted at you specifically, and they have no way of knowing your personal situation. Asking “do they want to kill the other one too?” feels like emotional reaction and a projection of personal pain to the message and company. This same message likely went out to thousands of people at once. I’ve even seen people say the company should have sent condolences first in the CS, but how would that even work in a bulk message? That isn’t realistic. This is just a marketing broadcast message that met you at the wrong time, not that the message or marketing is wrong.

This is the most annoying message I have gotten all year after losing a parent a few months ago. @LeadwayInsure Do you want to kill the other one too? BTW who is in charge of data protection in Nigeria? I’ve never had any business with this company. This lawlessness has to stop!

Let me further address this before y'all remove my trousers in my other tweet because I didn't address the data protection issue. Pls read; Bulk SMS marketing like this is legal in Nigeria. Companies partner with telecom providers to send messages, and your number comes from the telco database; not because you have any direct relationship with the brand. This is regulated by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). As long as there’s prior consent (often through SIM registration terms) and an option to opt out, it falls within the rules. Not every broadcast message is a violation; sometimes it’s just standard telecom-driven advertising.

One of the greatest blessings I’ve received this year is this man. He’s become such a significant part of my life, and I’m truly grateful to God for him. I love him deeply and would go to any length for him 😔❤️
