The general rule, though, tends to be: if your entire conception of Islam hinges on 1 particular scholar, such that if he were removed, your beliefs aren't found, then something is fishy. I'll log off again. See you guys later.

In the end, Twitter is an echo chamber. So your camp will stand behind your lies and add fuel to the fire and likewise for the opposition. The most you can do is just share whatever the facts are and hope for the best.

The amount of lies people spew on Twitter about scholars is astonishing. One guy said ''Scholar X holds such and such position,'' which is known to not be the case if you ever read his books. I just cannot be bothered, because I don't live on here.

Just purchased it after watching your interview with Paul. I hope this is the book that allows me to actually grasp Manṭiq. The subject is taught poorly by many teachers, who usually pretend to understand it themselves.

Very excited to announce the publication of my textbook in logic, critical thinking, and scientific reasoning for students of the classical Islamic sciences. basira.samcart.com/products/isghj…

@ZaidAbuHurayra Of course it's just a model for now, which is fine, if data alters, the model can get altered too (as long as it doesn't contradict any known scriptural fact).

@ZaidAbuHurayra If humanity only were, say, a few 10 thousand years old and the human population was as small as we know it to have been, such a large number seems slightly odd at face value (were armies of prophets sent to certain nations?). But in this new light, this number falls into place

I received this thought-provoking comment on my blog, and I think it says something about our community's perception of Islamic knowledge. Many Muslims seem to think that "Islamic" discourse needs to talk about things explicitly mentioned in scripture. I think this is different from how classical scholars viewed Islam—an all-encompassing knowledge program that's supposed to take all lines of evidence into account, be that derived from scripture or the empirical/rational sciences. When I've previously made posts listing the best books on Islam and Science, some people bristled at the inclusion of William Lane Craig or James Ladyman's books in what was supposed to be an "Islamic" list. I want my work to represent a break from this line of thinking. I want my Substack to not just be a good Islamic blog, but also a good science blog—one you can read to learn the basics of genetics, genomics, paleoanthropology and possibly other biology-adjacent fields. Speaking of, do you need a primer on Genetic Dominance? Maybe this will help: islamandscience.substack.com/p/hadith-genet…

@sIbnYusuf I'll have a read after work. I think we are converging. I'll DM you in sha Allah, easier than going back and forth here.

@sIbnYusuf only be ascribed* And C2 leads to a contradiction *in this world* where the matters are as they are. If I made a mistake in reasoning (which I may have), I'm glad to be corrected

@sIbnYusuf 1) The Prophet possesses attribute X 2) Attribute X rationally/logically entails that only 1 person possesses it 3) Somebody else (also) possesses attribute X C1: The Prophet no longer possesses attribute X Or C2: Both possess attribute X which can 'aqlan by ascribed to 1 person

@hashimiyy_ @UmarElhashmi This package contains attributes that can't be shared extramentally (fi al-kharij), because it results in a logical contradictions, i.e. two seals. It results in something intrinsically impossible based on his attributes, whether they themselves were necessary or possible. (2/2)

@hashimiyy_ @UmarElhashmi No, you are genuinely missing the point. It doesn't matter how the sifah is established, the point is: can a likeness/duplicate exist of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ with all his attributes. We are not discussing qua his humanity or qua his being an Arab. The full package. (1/2)

@hashimiyy_ @UmarElhashmi Revelation. Now you may write out why having an unshareable attribute known through revelation does not result in a logical contradiction if shared with another person, since that is the exact point.

@KaafiyahChannel Salam u alaykum, What is the Ashari position on the idea of Lying and the possibility of Allah doing it? I am familiar with the Maturidi position of the impossibility of it, but I am curious the Ashari stance as I have heard conflicting information from Ar-Razi, Al-Ghazali etc
