The con has always been a highlight of my year for me. This fandom has great people but needs to focus on getting rid of the horrible people out there,not banning kids.

Kids being in furry conventions isn’t the problem. People are blaming minors,instead of getting rid of the pedophiles and zoophiles??? The security should definetly be improved but at the end of the day the kids aren’t the Damm problem,the pedos are.

@OddTodd32 Yes kill all pedos. But I think you’re referring to the 18+ section in dealers den? Which they check your ID to make sure no minors get in (at least in Anthrocon).
Parents should be supervising their kids at all times regardless

Make all furry conventions +18 or +21 at this point. I can't fathom why minors are allowed (with parental/guardian consent) at big US cons. You can't deny the adult nature of cons and the fandom.

my 5am take is not all cons should be 18-21+ (BUT I do wish there were *more* 18-21+ cons!) Cons were an important part of the fandom for me as a teenager and I would hate for young furries today to not have that experience.
The focus should be on making cons safer for everyone!

If there’s not a safe way for kids/teens to attend fur cons, they’ll just enter the fandom from other avenues with fewer safeties/oversight. Better to accommodate their needs safely than to forbid them and encourage them to become sneaky/covert. Welcoming them is harm reduction.

A lot of people are mad at me,so let me clarify:
Yes I definetely agree SOME cons should be 18+,to give adults freedom. But not all of them.
A lot of people are being straight up hateful towards kids attending a con,which is supposed to be a welcoming place for everyone.

@MojoYote I attended AC this year as a minor and they do still require the parental consent form. There needs to be better security though :(

As someone who grew up in the furry fandom in the 2010s, one thing I really dislike about the fandom and online spaces is how easily minors and adults can mix. I do agree that most cons, especially larger cons, should be 18+, but I also agree that there should still be safe places for minors to express themselves too.
It’s a hard balance but it just means that non 18+ cons would have to find ways to be more cautious about minors attending, but already I’m pretty sure they require a legal parent or guardian to accompany the minor at all times and a notarized form confirming the relation? Or at least they did when I went to AC as a minor.

Any furry you see answering this with "just make cons 18+" is virtue signaling. They don't actually care about the safety of children, they just want them out so they can turn cons into a degenerate theme park.

@pastel_op0ssum Agree!! The security would definitely need to be improved in the future because all horrible things that have happened. Been going to AC since I was 15. As long as minors have their guardian/parent with them,keep cons all ages.

WRONG here’s me at my first ac! Was 14 here, never had any issues being a minor at cons. Me and my father minded our business passing anyone or anything “adult” because I knew better than to engage. Simple as that
