Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to present my paper “Tiny Models, Big Impact: A Federated Learning Approach to Monitoring Depression Treatment via Smartphones and Wearables” at the ACC-SAP Conference in Potsdam, Germany. Grateful for the experience!

The Ethiopian National Ministry of Education has prohibited all recipients of honorary doctorate degrees from using the title “Doctor” or “Dr” outside the institution that conferred the honour. The directive, signed by Minister of Education Berhanu Nega in July 2025, also bars serving government officials and political candidates from being nominated for honorary doctorates. Furthermore, newly established universities are restricted from awarding the distinction. Institutions must have graduated at least eight cohorts and offer third-cycle degrees, such as PhDs, before they can confer honorary doctorates. Those that do not meet these requirements are prohibited from granting the title.
