A few well-established facts. The archaeological, genetic and linguistic evidence for the Iranic origins of the Scythians, Sarmatians and Alans is overwhelming. Many Steppe Iranics mixed heavily with Turkic populations over time, but this doesn't make all of them Turkic. Here is the archaeological and linguistic summary: Corded Ware Culture (Proto-Indo-European) => Abashevo (Transitional or Early Proto-Indo-Iranic) => Sintashta (Indo-Iranic) => splintered in all directions. These cultures show a clear continuity of the Y-DNA haplogroup R1a. Some of the eastern splinters were later absorbed by Turkic populations, which is the source of most Turkic R1a. Other descendants of Sintashta, such as the Yaz culture Iranians, Gandhara and related cultures Indians and the various Steppe Iranics, retained their original languages. Among other proofs, we know the Alans were Iranic because they are the only historical explanation for why modern Ossetians speak an Iranic tongue.

This map is so offensively shitty that i felt the need to correct it. Heres a lazy draw out of 220bc, but more focused on the rest of Europe. (not that the mediterranean part is correct either)
