Former Microsoft VP says Microsoft missed the AI wave like the internet and mobile, as Copilot scales back in Windows 11 Microsoft spent $37.5B per quarter on AI. Less than 3.3% of Microsoft 365 users pay for Copilot. OEMs stuffed NPUs into every laptop, and not a single k1ller use case materialized in Windows or Office. That's a distribution-first company learning that distribution doesn't work when the product doesn't pull. However: The same former VP who calls this a failure also says Microsoft's enterprise moat is unbreakable. Both things are true simultaneously and that tension is exactly why the next 18 months matter more than the last 18.

Bill Gates sold the rest of his Microsoft shares 7.7 million $MSFT shares dumped and $3.2B gone Crazy part is that this is the company he literally built from nothing Held it for decades through every crash, every rally, every cycle but now suddenly zero shares left Not trimming, taking profits pure completely out but why??? Former Microsoft executive says Microsoft missed the AI wave like the internet and mobile, as Copilot scales back in Windows 11 Microsoft’s AI strategy has a serious adoption problem, and a former Microsoft exec just said the quiet part out loud. Mat Velloso, who spent 12+ years at Microsoft and even served as Satya Nadella’s technical advisor, says Microsoft “missed the AI wave.” The numbers explain why this hits hard. Microsoft has pushed Copilot into Windows 11, Office, GitHub, and the taskbar. However, fewer than 3% of paying users actively use Copilot. Out of roughly 450 million Microsoft 365 users, only about 15 million are paid Copilot seats. The same issue exists with AI PCs. OEMs added NPUs because Microsoft pushed the category, but Windows still does not have enough truly useful NPU-first features for normal people. Microsoft is aware of the backlash, and Windows 11 is suddenly getting the fixes users wanted for years: movable taskbar, better Start controls, native UI work, driver quality improvements, and fewer pointless Copilot pushes.

Microsoft has fired Alon Haimovich, the head of its Israeli subsidiary, and several other managers. An internal investigation found serious problems with the company’s work for Israel’s Defense Ministry. Microsoft cloud services were used to store recordings of millions of Palestinian phone calls every day on servers in Europe. The company had already ended some access in 2025 but uncovered more issues in the review. The Israeli branch will now be managed from France.

OpenAI accounts for the vast majority of Microsoft's GPU capacity, so minus the $13bn already invested we've got about $87bn of capex...out of $289bn or so. This heavily suggests that Microsoft has barely installed any GPUs, and has massive amounts in storage.
