[Weibo Post Translation] 20260123 | A Chinese Weibo User’s Logical Analysis of the Kim Soo-hyun & Kim Sae-ron Case I didn’t expect that a short reflection I posted about Kim Soo Hyun a couple of days ago would result in my DMs and comment section being flooded. Since so many people are questioning why I concluded that Kim Soo Hyun is innocent, I think it’s necessary to seriously lay out how a normal person, using basic logic, can analyze the controversies surrounding him. First of all, I want to dismantle, one by one, the labels that have been constructed around him. 1. “Pedo” This was the first label attached to him after the incident broke out, and in my view, the most malicious one. What’s almost absurd is that many people who casually throw this label at him don’t actually know what pedophilia means. According to DeepSeek, pedophilia refers to a persistent and intense sexual attraction toward prepubescent children, usually under the age of 13. It is categorized as a paraphilia and is considered a stable, long-term sexual orientation rather than a situational behavior. Individuals with this condition are unable to suppress their attraction to children, often collect objects related to children as “memorabilia,” and, most importantly, are incapable of maintaining attraction to a single individual or feeling sexual desire toward adults. Based on this definition alone, Kim Soo Hyun categorically does not fit the criteria of a pedophile. Why? Because there was a video reportedly sent by Kim Soo Hyun to Kim Sae Ron in which he filmed a street display of adult, sexually suggestive lingerie. Many people cite this as evidence of his “abnormal sexual preferences.” But ironically, this video does the exact opposite—it demonstrates that his sexual preference aligns with that of an ordinary adult male. If he were a pedophile, he wouldn’t be filming adult lingerie; he would be fixated on children’s school uniforms. Pedophilia has a very clear boundary when it comes to physical development. Pedophiles are exclusively attracted to bodies that have not completed sexual development and feel no interest whatsoever toward physically mature individuals. Some people try to use this characteristic to argue that Kim Soo Hyun supposedly lost interest in Kim Sae Ron as she “grew up.” But let’s be honest: female physical development is largely complete by ages 15–16, and by 18, the body is fully mature. If Kim Soo Hyun were truly a pedophile, the absolute upper limit of his tolerance would have been before she turned 16—there is no plausible scenario in which he would remain exclusively focused on her until she was 20. Kim Sae Ron claimed that they began dating when she was 15 and continued for six years, spanning her entire developmental period. A relationship of that duration, focused on a single individual, directly contradicts established psychological research on pedophilia. Once the pedophilia accusation collapses, the remaining question becomes unavoidable: in a country like South Korea, where sexual relations with minors under 16 are explicitly illegal, what rational incentive would Kim Soo Hyun have to start a relationship at age 15 in the first place? Just as pedophiles cannot be attracted to adults, ordinary people do not experience sexual desire toward prepubescent individuals. From the timeline alone, the only conclusion consistent with basic human behavior is that the relationship—if it existed at all—began after adulthood. 2. “NPD” (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) This label, which I saw circulating on RedNote, is somehow even more laughable than the pedophilia accusation. Ever since pseudo-feminist discourse became popular, people have developed a habit of attaching clinical-sounding psychological terms to men without caring whether they are accurate. NPD is typically characterized by extreme double standards, low accountability, instability in intimate relationships, frequent partner-switching, inability to sustain long-term interests, and a tendency toward self-indulgence. Based on these traits, anyone with even a cursory understanding of both Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron’s public images prior to this scandal would find that NPD fits Kim Sae Ron far more than Kim Soo Hyun—who is famously disciplined and self-controlled. The reason this label emerged at all is quite transparent. Many people subconsciously recognize that the “six-year obsessive love story” attributed to Kim Soo Hyun is internally inconsistent and riddled with contradictions. To force the narrative to hold together, they introduce the concept of NPD to rationalize his alleged “fixation.” But this is like patching a broken character arc in a badly written novel—it’s awkward and collapses under scrutiny. Personality traits manifest across all areas of life, not selectively toward a single individual. If Kim Soo Hyun truly had NPD, there would not be only one accuser after nearly two decades in the industry. A person’s true nature cannot be concealed indefinitely. This is basic common sense. 3. Sexual Control and Exploitation A large number of Bilibili content creators confidently assert that Kim Soo Hyun deliberately targeted Kim Sae Ron as part of a power-based dynamic of control and exploitation, combining this claim with the previous labels to construct a dark, predatory image: a hunter who preys on a “young target,” nurtures her, and discards her once she matures. But do these storytellers realize that if Kim Soo Hyun were the one exerting control, the compromising photos used as leverage would be in his possession—not hers? This logic is painfully obvious. Yet somehow, it continues to be inverted. The person photographed without consent in private moments is Kim Soo Hyun, not Kim Sae Ron. The individual whose reputation was threatened and leveraged is also Kim Soo Hyun. Historically, the people known for secretly photographing intimate partners are labeled “collectors,” not victims. Kim Sae Ron took photos of Kim Soo Hyun from behind, without his knowledge, in moments that cannot reasonably be described as artistic. I can only interpret such behavior in two ways: collecting “trophies,” or preparing material for future leverage. So who, exactly, was attempting to exert control? Given Kim Soo Hyun’s industry experience and age—over 30 at the time, with full cognitive and legal capacity—if he had truly intended to control her, the most basic precaution would have been to avoid leaving any photographic evidence at all. Yet he appeared openly on camera during her minor years, completely unguarded. That alone indicates a lack of calculated intent. Planned wrongdoing requires strong motivation and careful behavior. The person who subconsciously preserves “evidence” is far more likely to be the one with an agenda. By this logic, Kim Soo Hyun is not the dominant party here—he is the reactive one, unable to control the direction of events. Had Kim Sae Ron still been alive, her actions would arguably meet the criteria for extortion. A former partner releasing intimate photos during the airing of a hit drama cannot be interpreted as goodwill. The only plausible interpretations are retaliation or coercion. Neither aligns with the narrative of a powerless victim. 4. Financial Control This accusation actually involves basic industry knowledge. I’ve seen a rather absurd claim circulating, suggesting that Kim Sae Ron’s 700 million KRW debt was deliberately imposed on her by Kim Soo Hyun’s company in order to exert financial control. The reasoning behind this claim is that, according to her family, after Kim Sae Ron’s DUI incident, the production company was allegedly willing to let her complete filming, but her agency forcibly intervened, leading to breach-of-contract damages that were then shifted onto her as personal debt. From an industry standpoint, this narrative is completely illogical. No production company would insist on fulfilling a contract while simultaneously possessing sufficient legal grounds to demand damages, all while voluntarily absorbing the reputational and market risks posed by a scandal-ridden actor—unless that company itself were the actor’s financial backer. Therefore, if anyone can produce a public statement in which the production company expressed a desire for Kim Sae Ron to continue filming after the incident, please send it to me immediately. I would sincerely like to pay my respects to what would then be the most saintly production company in the history of Korean entertainment. Since this argument collapses entirely under basic scrutiny, the conclusion is straightforward: Gold Medalist, which assumed Kim Sae Ron’s full debt, was legally and unquestionably a creditor. I genuinely question whether those calling Kim Soo Hyun “cold-blooded” or accusing him of economic manipulation possess even basic real-world common sense. With an undisputed debt contract in hand, Kim Soo Hyun’s side could have taken actions far more aggressive than sending payment notices—many, many times over. To begin with, there was an existing management contract between the parties. The company could have required Kim Sae Ron to participate in low-cost, low-quality projects to repay the debt quickly. At the very least, they could have pushed her into low-tier commercial appearances, touring events, or photo shoots. Kim Sae Ron was not an artist devoid of commercial value. Even after the DUI incident, regardless of how badly her career had suffered, it is simply unrealistic to claim that she had no remaining exploitable value. Even in a scenario where absolutely no work opportunities could be found, standard industry practice upon contract termination would be to settle outstanding debts immediately—most efficiently through civil litigation. Under normal circumstances, it is almost unheard of for an artist to leave a company while the debt relationship continues indefinitely. Yet in reality, Gold Medalist did none of these things. They sent only two payment notices—documents barely worth more than scrap paper. These notices were not sent to her family, but directly to Kim Sae Ron herself, and they generated no public pressure or social consequences whatsoever. So for those accusing Kim Soo Hyun of attempting to exert “economic control,” I have to ask: what exactly did he control? And what did he gain? All that appears to exist are a 700 million KRW loan, leaked private photos, and an audio recording accusing him of being a pedophile. This is precisely why I cannot uncritically accept narratives pushed by certain click-driven self-media accounts and influencers. Their stories fundamentally contradict any coherent understanding of objective reality. A man repeatedly portrayed as a dominant figure capable of manipulating—and even driving a 26-year-old adult to death became, almost overnight, the target of mass online vilification. Meanwhile, the supposedly “controlled and exploited” party’s family and legal representatives were able to destroy his public image through just two press conferences, even after her passing. It is honestly difficult to imagine what would have happened if Kim Sae Ron were still alive and had personally come forward with accusations. One can hardly conceive how completely Kim Soo Hyun’s life would have been ruined. In such a profoundly asymmetric situation, anyone who can, in good conscience, insist that Kim Soo Hyun was the one exerting control and exploitation truly raises the question: do they still possess the basic rational capacity expected of an adult? 5. The Family’s Response to Criminal Allegations What finally overturned my initial uncertainty was the behavior of Kim Sae Ron’s family. In South Korea, sexual relations with minors aged 13–16 constitute a criminal offense. Any normal guardian, especially one claiming to possess solid evidence, would go straight to the police—not the media. Yet the family’s early stance focused on demanding that Kim Soo Hyun “admit fault,” not “admit guilt.” That distinction alone is baffling. As a mother, I cannot comprehend this logic. Unless the police refused to accept the case—which was never claimed—the priority should have been legal accountability, not public shaming. The March press conference followed by a police report only in May is fundamentally inconsistent with ordinary human behavior. Even more telling, it was Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team pushing for investigative progress, while the family refused to submit original audio files for forensic verification. Later, through their attorney, they explicitly stated that they never claimed Kim Sae Ron’s death was directly caused by Kim Soo Hyun—language that clearly mirrors legal strategies to avoid defamation or false accusation liability. So, taking all of the above into account, and having observed the development of the situation from the beginning until now, I have not found any internally consistent logic in the narratives put forward by Kim Sae Ron’s family and their legal representatives. I remain unconvinced, and therefore lean toward believing Kim Soo Hyun’s side of the story. My professional habits make it impossible for me to interpret facts based solely on emotions. I need to see alignment between motive, logic, and behavior. Some people, when vehemently criticizing me on message boards, repeatedly claim that Kim Soo Hyun cannot prove his innocence and is simply trying to smear Kim Sae Ron. I find this argument absurd. In criminal proceedings, it is possible to prove a crime through a complete chain of evidence—but it is essentially impossible to force a party to prove that they did not commit the act. Any subject can only rely on logical reasoning and evidence to demonstrate their non-involvement and establish an alibi. When Kim Soo Hyun publicly shared letters between him and his ex-girlfriend, outlined Kim Sae Ron’s romantic history, and listed her potential real-life partners, he was essentially trying to show that an alibi existed—demonstrating that he had not committed the alleged wrongdoing. From the perspective of criminal psychology, intentional persecution of another person requires a strong motive and subjective malice. Kim Soo Hyun, from any angle, had no need or reason to harbor “malice” toward Kim Sae Ron. He had countless other ways to achieve satisfaction or a sense of accomplishment… Emotionally, he had no urgent need to control anyone. Kim Sae Ron was never under any real control; she remained free, socially active, and even married. The two had no “exclusive” relationship, and existing evidence suggests that Kim Sae Ron did not have access to Kim Soo Hyun’s private life. Constructing a narrative in which Kim Soo Hyun was obsessively fixated on her is therefore entirely far-fetched. In my view, Kim Soo Hyun’s biggest mistake may have been dating an artist signed under his own company… but in any case, the situation has entered the judicial system, and I can calmly wait for the outcome. Here, I want to give one final piece of advice: the root cause of all online mob attacks is the Pandora’s box of “presumption of guilt.” Whoever initiates a campaign of mass online vilification only needs to open this box and pre-define a “conclusion.” Netizens will then instinctively gather any threads, however tenuous, that fit this narrative, piecing together a complete “villain puzzle.” Many people claim that Kim Soo Hyun’s tears at the press conference were “acted,” but from another perspective, if those tears were genuine, no word like “tragic” could ever fully capture the depth of his grief. I sincerely hope that people continue to follow the final judicial investigation. If Kim Soo Hyun is truly innocent, the relentless, baseless insults and vilification directed at him from March until now have truly crossed the moral boundaries of civilized society. Even from a humanitarian standpoint, I would hope to see more apologies directed at him, though that may be idealistic. Yet this is how the world should be. In truth, Kim Soo Hyun is not the first unlucky person to suffer such treatment. There have been countless others. I sincerely hope that such cases become less frequent in the future, both in domestic and international entertainment industries. ©️特有馅儿的馒头 (🔗weibo.com/3555991137/Qos…) #WeStandWithKimSooHyun #김수현 #KimSooHyun #金秀賢 #キムスヒョン #คิมซูฮยอน

[0114] Famous Korean Art Director, Kim Siho, mentioned #KimSoohyun on his recent post: I first met Kim Soohyun during #DreamHigh. At that time I was the team leader in charge of art and props. I remember struggling while fighting against the extremely cold winter that year. Samdong’s drawing was drawn quickly on set, and I personally decorated Pil Suk’s pink guitar and gave it to IU. Besides that, it was a drama filled with many art props that I made. When I remember Soohyun at that time, he always had a smiling face, he was truly innocent, lively, and full of playful energy, and when acting or singing, he worked harder than anyone else, and he was very good. In fact, he was the only main cast member who was a real actor, so it must have been a burden, but I remember he handled it very smartly and well. After that, seeing him succeed more and more in many works, I thought, “as expected, he really is special.” And after time passed, I met Soohyun again, now the top star, in a drama called Knock Off, where I participated as the art director. He had become a big star, but he was humble, still humorous, and still full of playful charm. And his acting was serious and deep. Last March, my Knock Off stopped. Even now, when I take out and look at the set photos from that time, my heart feels heavy. I believe in him. It is a work that he and all of us truly made with blood and sweat, getting tired from the heat and shivering in the cold, doing our very best. I sincerely hope that the time for Knock Off with him will surely come again. ⸻ @siho_kim_ukunart/post/DTeShq7j7Qy?xmt=AQF0ml1oHFDfAqAZUAQnXiP_63Z467qRq5JfLgICdFYiKkRlcwUg-VBXbBHu0l2klTVjQOw7&slof=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">threads.com/@siho_kim_ukun
