@PownalForever@PatriciaRader7@ErikDavisforNC1@greg_price11 I know he’s a popular press writer
I call him a YouTuber because you’re obsessed with YouTube videos of him
He’s the 90s version of a YouTuber (blogger/popular writer) who hasn’t published in academia in literally 30+ years
Anyway 👋 reading to do
Here are some facts: Only 37% of Americans have a 4-yr college degree, only 13% have graduate degrees, and a full 56% of student loan debt is held by people who went to grad school.
Biden's plan to cancel it would be like taking money from a plumber to pay the debt of a lawyer.
@PownalForever@PatriciaRader7@ErikDavisforNC1@greg_price11 Yeah we all understood that the rules might change - student loan forgiveness has been in the public discourse for 20 years at this point (PSLF is 15 years old and it wasn’t even the first program)
@PownalForever@PatriciaRader7@ErikDavisforNC1@greg_price11 We’ve changed the rules going forward to improve how interest is calculated and did a fix for people who didn’t get it yet
In the real world rules change everyone understood that - even if your favorite YouTuber didn’t
@KalBerg123@PatriciaRader7@ErikDavisforNC1@greg_price11 Paying someone else’s debt changes rules retroactively. Hence those that sacrificed become suckers. This will have an impact on tuition (it goes up again), and on borrower/lender behavior going forward. No one can trust terms of contracts.
@Blaguards@SibelOktay Wouldn’t really consider PE something you get with a bachelors
You get it with a Bachlors plus several years of work - based on the understanding that the work is additional training
@KalBerg123@SibelOktay Many engineering fields will get you to 125k+ with only a bachelors.
Of course, that's with many years' experience and probably a PE license
I saw someone on here ask with the innocence of a thousand newborn babies how many undergrads make less than 125k upon graduation and all I have to say is--
@PownalForever@PatriciaRader7@ErikDavisforNC1@greg_price11 Isn’t Sowell the guy who wrote an entire book criticizing intellectuals who don’t stay in their lanes - and then went on to make a career commenting on issues out of his lane?
@PownalForever@PatriciaRader7@ErikDavisforNC1@greg_price11 But that’s not the only reason Krugman is considered a leader in the field he’s also one of the most cited in the academic literature (you know the thing actual economists publish in with peer review and shit)
@PownalForever@PatriciaRader7@ErikDavisforNC1@greg_price11 I mean it’s literally the highest recognition in any given field but sure it doesn’t matter because the people you like don’t win it
Have you considered that just maybe you like the wrong people?
@PownalForever@PatriciaRader7@ErikDavisforNC1@greg_price11 Sowell will never win a Nobel prize because he hasn’t contributed enough to the field
Especially since he hasn’t published anything in the peer reviewed literature since literally the HW bush days
@PownalForever@PatriciaRader7@ErikDavisforNC1@greg_price11 Dude are you trying to embarrass yourself or does it come naturally to you?
The science prizes are awarded for accomplishments in science - awards come from scientific bodies (Swedish academy of sciences)
Peace prize is a political prize selected by politicians
In keeping with my campaign promise, my Administration is announcing a plan to give working and middle class families breathing room as they prepare to resume federal student loan payments in January 2023.
I'll have more details this afternoon.
@New_Account4me@MarkMaritatoArt@mattwhitlock@POTUS I’m well aware of this
I wasn’t suggesting it’s bad policy
I think the cutoff is right where it should be
If it was higher that would be dumping money out of the middle class
@New_Account4me@MarkMaritatoArt@mattwhitlock@POTUS We’ve been in a pandemic for 2.5 years now so that’s about as recent as we have business as usual income data
And no incomes didn’t nearly triple in the last 3 years
Not sure what me paying for it has to do with anything - this is good policy and I didn’t suggest it isn’t
