Deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Professor Birutė Galdikas, a world-renowned scholar and pioneering orangutan researcher. Prof. Birutė Galdikas was one of the most distinguished #Lithuanian-born scientists - a remarkable researcher who dedicated her life to nature conservation and the study of endangered orangutan populations. For more than five decades, Prof. Galdikas conducted groundbreaking research, established the first orangutan observation center in Borneo, and spearheaded major international conservation efforts. Through her academic and public work, she enriched global science, honored her #Baltic roots, and inspired future generations. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to her family, the scientific community, and all those who find encouragement in her life and work. Photo©️VDU
