The Type 56 is a Chinese-built variant of the AK-47 that became standard for the NVA after 1967. Its name comes from 1956, the year China received the AK pattern from the Soviet Union. Military Type 56s typically featured a fixed stock, folding under-barrel needle bayonet, enclosed front sight, unthreaded muzzle, and chrome bolt carriers. It fired 7.62mm rounds from standard 30-round curved magazines, ideal for cutting through the dense vegetation of the Vietnamese jungle.
