From the pen of Matthew Zipf! "For a while, Adler used a rubber band to hold the braid in place. But a band tears at the roots, which is especially harmful to hair thinning with age. Nothing holds the braid in place now. Just friction, inertia, and renewed weaving."
Liberties Journal of Culture and Politics@readliberties

"Gay Talese described her as “determinedly dowdy.” For Mary McCarthy, it was up to the viewer. She described Adler, who was dating her son, as 'a thin, rather Biblical-looking Jewish girl . . . who is either quite homely or a beauty, according to taste.'" libertiesjournal.com/articles/cleop…

If your brain was also a time capsule for the history of humanity -- every famous painting, every bit of news footage -- and you mistook all of it for yourself. And of course we do, all of us. You see someone walk on the moon and forget it isn't you.
Ben Brantley@BenjBrantley

So I dreamed it all, right? Or did it dream me? Luke Murphy's ravishing "Volcano," at St. Ann's Warehouse (part of the UTR Fest), is a mind-warping, lost-in-space time capsule steeped in futurist nostalgia for a collective past. Nearly 4 molten hours; I could've stayed all night.

I think what Yorgos Lanthimos understands about Frankenstein is that we’re all playing both roles always—we’re a bunch of mad scientists experimenting on ourselves #poorthings

Raven Jackson’s All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt is such a hopeful thing. It trickles down a life, stringing together moments of sadness — never wholly sad because there is always someone to share them. The frame is so tight it feels like one person, not two: a shared body feeling

Watching Geoff Sobelle eat an apple in FOOD at the BAM Next Wave Festival, you feel like you’re watching something illicit. Like the Fall replayed as the start of a midnight food binge — and aren’t they really the same thing?

Before reading Merry Me, I had never imagined that a sex pun could be made of Shakespeare’s name — and if that’s not recommendation enough, it's a lesbian sex comedy in which Willy finds himself cuckholded. I wrote about it for @TheBrooklynRail tinyurl.com/yvfrh29h @NYTW79

“I’ve never worn masks to marches before because they’re stuffy and I look good,” Clare Fok, 43, said through a gray face mask, with a pair of aviator sunglasses hiding her eyes. “We are deliberately wearing masks today because we can’t accept the ban.” nytimes.com/2019/10/05/wor…

Her first day on the job, another taxi driver told her to get off his turf. In 1950 black taxi drivers weren't allowed to pick up passengers downtown. Gertrude Jeannette tore his fender off. nytimes.com/2018/04/26/obi…
