From 1997 to the early 2000s, I was a young mangaka, between the ages of 24 and 27. During that time, I created a manga about the dreams and purity of people who draw and love manga, and at the same time, about the pain that comes from the outside world. The title of that work was 'TOON', and the name ‘Boichi be TOON,’ which I now use publicly, was taken from that work and given to me by a friend who remembered it It is truly, truly an incomplete manga. But within it remain records of who I was at the time, of the artists and aspiring creators who were suffering, and of the world we lived in. Over the past few days, I came to feel that I should show at least a part of this record to all of you. Because these are painful memories, opening this work again is a difficult and distressing act for me. Even so, I believe it may be needed—just a little—in the world we live in now. After discussing it with my friend in Canada, we will translate and share a few scenes. I sincerely apologize that it will be shown only in English. Once everything is ready, I will release a portion of it on Instagram. I am also planning to give this work as a gift to my friend. Because that friend has treasured this work even more than I have. When we meet, I will hand over the original manuscripts. I truly hope that they will remain in my friend’s care. From now on, I will begin sharing small parts of what I have with the people I love. Because I love them. If you love someone, you must give and share something. However no matter how it is justified—whether as the public good or the will of the majority—taking something by force is not love. You know... love is the most fundamental good that comes from our heart and soul. Everyone knows that!

Since the 24th, after posting on X, I haven’t been able to eat properly at all. It hurts my heart so deeply to feel as if all the efforts of my friend—who has supported me so much by helping with translations, lettering, and sharing news on X—have vanished into nothing. My SNS manga, Sunday’s Momonga shared about 55 pages on X, but in truth, I have drawn 140 pages over the past year. I believed X was the only place where this work could be released, shared with readers around the world, and enjoyed together. To see that place collapse breaks my heart. But what hurts the most is the screaming that keeps echoing inside my head. A long time ago, I watched myself and my fellow artists in Korea—people who had done nothing wrong—being taken from, attacked, and humiliated. I watched what happened to their lives and their dreams. As for my own life, I lived through it myself. Those wounds still bleed, even after decades. They will never heal—not until the day I die. Until the very last second of my life, they will keep bleeding. And now I have to watch the people I love—those who draw—go through the same suffering. I have to watch them give up drawing and leave the world of comics. Now, this is happening all over the world. I have escaped many times before, and I will escape again this time. But I know this very well: there are many people who cannot escape. Because the field they have built is precious to them, and because they know that the moment they leave, everything they have worked for will fall apart, they are left with no choice but to endure the pain, the humiliation, and the exploitation. A artist cannot endure even a single pen line or a single dot of their drawing being altered by someone else. Because it is our precious, beloved child. Throughout my entire life, even when I taught my students, I almost never corrected or altered their drawings carelessly. Well... there were only a few times, and even then, I did so only with their consent. Because I knew those drawings were their precious children. Even if it was just practice, the drawing was born from our own hands. To create that drawing—our drawing, a drawing like our own child—we have lived by giving up so many of the joys and happiness that others freely enjoy. And we will probably continue to do so. I believe this. Because my fellow artists in Korea have endured this pain for decades. This is what it means to draw. If you do not know this feeling, if you cannot understand it, then you do not understand ‘drawing.’ Actually it is very easy and simple to understand. That drawings are precious to us. You already know they are precious, right? That’s why I haven’t been able to eat properly since Christmas. Drawings... They are precious… They are truly, deeply precious…

To my beloved fans, It is with a heavy and broken heart that I write these words. As many of you may already know, this decision comes from the newly updated feature on X. For the time being, I will pause the publication of my comics and illustrations on X. I want to be clear: I do not fear AI. In fact, I believe in its future and the possibilities it may bring. However, I cannot accept my works being used, learned from, or exploited without my consent or proper compensation. I care deeply about X. Together with my Canadian friend—who helps translate my words into English and shares with me the voices and stories of fans from overseas—we have worked hard to build something meaningful here. This place has given us precious experiences and memories. Precisely because I like X, and because I believe it can become a good place for the future of manga, I have shared my most valuable works here. For now, I will stop posting my comics and illustrations on X. Instead, I will begin sharing my comics and illustrations on Instagram. Please understand—this does not mean I am leaving X. I will remain here, continue sharing news, and continue talking with you. I simply will not posting my art works here for the time being. Please enjoy my comics and illustrations on Instagram.
