Longevity isn't just about the volume of exercise—it’s also the variety. 🏃‍♂️🎾🏋️‍♀️ A new 30-year study of over 110,000 individuals shows that engaging in a wider range of activities was independently linked to a 19% lower risk of death. This study is a correlational study and doesn't prove that varying your exercise routine will prolong your life. But here's why variety matters: 🧬 Different movements challenge different metabolic pathways. 🛡️ Variety was linked to lower risks of CVD (cardiovascular disease), cancer, and respiratory disease. 📉 Benefits for total volume seem to peak around 20 MET hours/week, but variety continues to add protection. The Takeaway: Don’t JUST walk. Add a racquet sport, some weight training, or even strenuous gardening. Diversify your "movement portfolio" for a longer life.
