@ABetterOttawa An e-bike bike share system to help more people in our somewhat sprawled city to connect to LRT and bus. It needs to cover the whole city with a large number of bikes and be extremely affordable. It should operate year-round, in connection with better bike infrastructure.

If congestion is measured by time in A to B car travel, not much has been proven to reduce it. Not road capacity, transit, or bike lanes. Free up road space, and traffic comes back. But some solutions allow an escape. YES to bike lanes, transit, sidewalks, and shared mobility.

Tartu, Estonia (pop. 95 000) has Europe's 4th most popular bike share system per capita. Tartu isn't big, dense, warm, flat, or rich. But bike share is part of public transit, affordable, and available everywhere. tartu.ee/en/news/tartu-…

Either the Ontario government has completely failed to do its homework, or its efforts against bike lanes are politically driven.

@ABetterOttawa The ugliness of roads like Carling, Montreal, Bank (south), Merivale, etc. The fact that we created these on purpose is bewildering. Will they ever become vibrant, livable, healthy streets?

Congratulations @Canada_Bikes for a terrific Bike Day on the Hill - driving home the message of the benefits from having more Canadians on bikes of all types and the importance of strong federal-level support.

Agree with @ABetterOttawa. Other suggestions notably absent so far? -Reduce the roads budget, increase parking fees, develop a congestion charging plan.

@ykcebg The truth is that there are many places along our waterways that could be considered for this. I didn't mean to imply that it had to be the canal...that was just my first thought.

@KarlSaidla Have you seen how dirty the canal is getting these past few years? Not a pretty sight. It’s animated with walkers, joggers and cyclists. How much more animation does we need? Rideau River spots have more potential, especially around Windsor Park.
