Despite the PM's reluctance the construction was stopped in 2011. Irony is that in the central, Assam & Arunachal Pradesh were all under Congress rule. Fast forward to the later period: After 2016, with the Centre, Assam & Arunachal Pradesh all governed by BJP, the project was started. Following legal clearances, construction formally resumed in 2019, & by 2024–25 India finally got its largest hydropower project nearly 20yrs after it was conceived. 😭
