@lennysan Hot take: Palantir has had a lot of success and done many things well, but I wouldn't hold up their approach to building products as a model to be replicated.

The unconventional Palantir principles that catalyzed a generation of startups: 1. Forward-deploy your engineering 2. Hire the b̶e̶s̶t̶ absolute greatest people who exist 3. No salespeople—instead have engineers do sales 4. Solve the hardest problems first 5. Experimenting with live products 6. Build features that magnify value over time 7. Don’t build a PM organization too early lennysnewsletter.com/p/the-unconven…

@cwodtke So glad you said this. As a product person I feel compelled to push for "product-led" but I'm not actually sure what that means or that it's the best approach. Not sure how productive the alternatives are - I think I prefer customer-centric, mission-driven, or "just" strategic

I’m going to make my friends pissy, but I find the term product-led just terrible. I know you think it means companies with empowered teams, very customer centered, maybe even trying to exist decently in the larger ecosystem, but most folks will think: finally I am the boss.

@designmom The only tip I'll share from a friend who experienced the horror and trauma of CPS is to look for potentially undiagnosed genetic disorders that could cause abnormalities in tests if there is something that looks off.

Hey all. Thank you for all the advice, emotional support, and lawyer recommendations. The parents have focused their energy on securing a lawyer. Grandparents are helping. Beyond that I sadly have no updates. We’re hoping there will be progress and news on Monday.

My extended family has been thrown into a hellish nightmare. My nephew and his wife, who live in Boston, just had their two sons taken from them in the middle of the night by CPS. Their sons are 6 months old, and 3 1/2. A baby and a toddler, the baby still nursing.

Expense tool hot take: expensify isn't user-centered because they don't focus on MY spend, linking to import from MY payment methods like mint.

How many times do I have to go to my local coffee shop to be recognized? For them to know my order? And when should I take it personally that they don't? Nearly weekly, 30 times in a year, and nothing.

People ask me what books I'd recommend when working on a design system.📚 There are many, but these eight somewhat stand out for me. ⤵️

@jackiebo Apt timing! Was just thinking about how to weigh priorities across teams and keep circling the stack rank but now you have me back in the portfolio mindset... RICE plus straight ranking is so much simpler though!! 😂

@jackiebo Depends on level of scope, but generally I'd expect a team to have impact on outcomes and individuals to contribute value (accomplishment).

In tech performance reviews we tend to use the word Impact. I wonder if it would be better to say Accomplishments. Thoughts?

No one understands #prodmgmt. Once, after I actively participated in feature team meetings with engineers for a year, a scale testing eng said to me "Wow, you're really technical for someone in marketing". Evangelize your role, overcommunicate/educate about what you do.
