Uttar Pradesh: The Railways have issued a notice to vacate the mosque located outside Prayagraj Junction, citing the station’s redevelopment work, while the mosque side claims that it is a waqf-registered and years-old religious site. In protest against this notice, advocates, in a memorandum submitted to the Additional District Magistrate, stated that this mosque dates back to the British era and that regular five-time prayers have been offered here for years. The mosque was formally registered with the Waqf Board in 1950 under serial number 161. Its construction was carried out under the patronage of freedom fighter Major Shahnawaz Khan, who was an officer in the Azad Hind Fauj and later served as Deputy Minister in the Railway Ministry. The advocates said that issuing a notice to demolish a mosque that is registered with the Waqf Board and has been in operation for years is against law and justice.
