I've recompiled my big correlations-list using the team data for the entire 2023 season. This tells you what stats are useful measurements and predictors of offensive production (wOBA, OPS) and which are not (strikeout percentage, contact percentage).

@RobertStock6 i play in a local men's rec wood-bat league and on days i have games or practices i get so excited i can barely remember to eat, i can't imagine how awesome it would be to practice/play daily at a high level!

If you’re good at baseball it’s fun to play it every weekend. The problem is it’s better for your long-term career if you take breaks so you can train harder in the gym. If a parent or coach explains this to the player, and they’re “serious”, then they’ll jump at the opportunity.

Feynman once walked into the math department at Caltech & challenged the mathematicians to a duel. He asked them to name any theorem, no matter how complex, & promised he could explain it using common sense & basic physics. They gave him the Banach-Tarski Paradox (which says you can cut a ball into pieces & reassemble them into 2 identical balls). Feynman looked at it & dismissed it because no such material exists in nature. To him, if the math did not describe an asset in the real world, it was just accounting fluff :))

By the way this was a brilliant attempt by Gilbert in CF. Catch the ball but at the last second do it as low to the ground as possible to see if the runner on 3rd will leave early. That’s your only chance with a fly ball that deep.
