@Erin_Dean_ I would like my own stethoscope but am put off. Don’t know why though. I work in ITU&listen to chests all the time but can’t bring myself to get one. I just use the one in the bedspace. Sometimes it’s a Littman, sometimes it’s one that looks & feels like it’s from a toy set.

Nurses and stethoscopes - I'm writing about this after some nurses said they don't feel they can walk around with stethoscopes slung around their necks as they can feel judged. Do you use a stethoscope for your nursing role, and what has your experience been?

@timricketts_ Donate them to a health library? Or offer them to nurse-y people where you work? Everything is behind a paywall. Nurses don’t even get the publications as part of their RCN membership, we have to pay extra. Can’t afford it.

@BrianWebster18 Whenever I read these I think how hard it is for nurses to achieve a “healthy lifestyle” due to constraints of the job. And how much advice we offer that we can’t follow ourselves 🤣

@RNMHCG my husband is a counsellor and currently doing a course in counselling for children and young people in a school setting. So it’s not necessarily teachers or clinicians, but qualified CYP psychotherapists. This is currently provided by charities.

How much detail do you put in a CV? I always thought that it was a brief overview of what you have done, skills etc. but if it’s what you are using to apply for jobs should it be quite detailed? @RCNNRN @RCNStudents

@credland_nicki @Carol_Cannon1 Manual Kit isn’t available in practice. I like doing a manual BP, and in community setting did them all the time as a student. In a hospital no easy access to a manual BP kit. I’m finding it frustrating that lots of people saying NQNs don’t have the skills. We do. But no kit.

@Carol_Cannon1 It is taught in Uni but rarely seen in clinical practice sadly

This is exactly why ‘just doing the obs’ needs to be banned. BP monitoring alongside the remaining vital signs should be part of a comprehensive clinical assessment 100% of the time!

@RCNNRN A lot of the international nurses have brought family members who now work in care. So those “dependents” are filling vital roles in care themselves once they have moved here. So even removing the human element of caring for those who care, it’s very short sighted.

@duffett_claire @Dr_BellaR I read through the standards and I thought the clinical time was similar to a nursing degree and was mandatory? Health Careers England states 1,600 hours clinical time, 350 in hospital. Nurses MUST do 2,600 hours clinical placement over 3 years and 2,600 uni for registration.

@Dr_BellaR I don’t dispute your concerns at all but Has the original post/ advert been fact checked? Especially given how zoomed in the screenshots are. I reported a job ad once that had been shared all over Twitter and they came back and said it was an error 1/2

As an NRN or final year STN how are you feeling about your decision to become a nurse now? How much of a barrier is the student loan? Did your opinion change? Is it in relation to pay&responsibility after qualification? What else do you think would help boost applications?

@Medic_Russell The M&S Blueberry is the only one that contains *only* blueberry. The other brands have raisins and blueberry which is a no from me.

I work in elderly care, we have a lot of confused patients (delirium, dementia). Do you know any techniques or tools which can help in this area? #RCNNRN

@DrEilidhMaria Do they mean “Bay”? poor literacy around hospital based care provision by politicians & media is doing a lot of damage here & creating unnecessary panic. A mixed sex ward is normal. A mixed sex bay/boarding area is a breach. Imagine the bed crisis if all wards were single sex 🤣

@helen_barnowl Is this the debilitating voice of rejection sensitivity dysphoria? Or do you hate public speaking? Or both. If it’s the RSD, then I hope you know that there is huge value in your sharing your experience. But if you will find it draining then weigh up the cost/benefit and decide x
