In the years I’ve been making Stuff The British Stole, the biggest lesson for me has been how much history hides behind politeness—polite plaques, polite speeches, polite monarchs. I don’t have Lidia Thorpe's life experience, and it’s not appropriate for me to offer commentary on her actions. But let’s be clear on one thing: the British Empire was not a polite enterprise. Like most, it was built on conquest, power, and, yes, things were truly stolen. Many things that have not been returned or in some cases even acknowledged. It was not a polite empire.

Last July, I led a study tour with 20 incredible young people (@RMIT students) from 🇦🇺 to 🇧🇦. We visited several places, including Jablanica and Mostar. I’m deeply moved by my students’ concern, care, and generosity for the people currently affected by the floods there. ❤️🇦🇺❤️🇧🇦

For the people hating on this post. I had my daughter in childcare for the duration of the conference. My babysitter cancelled for the evening so I approached the organisers to ask, in advance, what I should do. Sometimes plans fail. This is why flexibility is so important.

I’m at a conference today. The organisers just told me that I can’t bring my daughter to the networking session or the dinner tonight. I couldn’t get a babysitter. This is one of those times, as a single parent, that you really miss out. It felt like a gut punch.

I find it so amusing that Rupert Murdoch could only persuade ONE of his children support to support his political views 😂
