@KateEYT Oh dear, as autism has a Spiky profile one autistic individual could be across all of these levels. Medical models are never good, this is just an ableist representation 🫤

TW - discriminatory image My son wasn’t diagnosed with a “level” of autism (thank goodness) but out of curiosity I did some searching. I found this: Image shows “level 1” a child with a disgruntled expression, folding her arms.

Yet when you are autistic it’s all “because of the autism”. Autistic people are bloody brilliant, varied, expressive, deeply feeling and thinking individuals, just as much as anyone else. Let’s please stop representing them as flat one dimensional beings.

He also talks our bloody ears off about his special interests because he loves us and that’s his love language. We know that NT people all have different moods and different love languages…

Have you ever met a precocious dinosaur expert - or, in this little guy’s case - a miniature John Deere tractor enthusiast? Many young children develop intense interests, which can seem borderline obsessive. But research suggests that highly focused interests may actually enhance intellectual development - enhancing children’s perseverance, attention spans, and complex thinking skills. 🎥 MegKMyers TT

Today I recieved an advanced copy of an article I wrote that is being published in a gorgeous globally circulated magazine. I was all set to share it online, and read through it quickly as I was snapping photos of how beautifully their design team had presented my words.

Oouf. This is one of those posts where I'm hoping people who would feel a similar oouf, just sort of say oouf too. I'm too ooufed to explain (though endless explanation is available via Google far better articulated than I could manage). #ActuallyAutistic

Or therapy/counselling? He says he can only talk about it for 10 minutes and he’s ok with it being me or his dad he talks to. But what else can we say that will help him understand/process/not fear this?

However he is now fixated on the “nothingness” of it. He says he thinks about it every day. What should I do? He’s very scientifically minded - is there a better explanation or video I could show him?

#ActuallyAutistic people of Twitter - I need your advice. My son is very anxious about death, especially what it feels like to be dead. His sister is disabled and this all stems from when she first got sick 2 years ago. He also had a grandparent die when he was 3…
