@AmbroseMadi This quarter has flown by! I'm graduating and while I'm super excited, it feels like there is so much to do in the next 2 weeks both for school and personally to try to wrap everything up #ENVIR492

Since we're almost done with #ENVIR492, I thought I would share some tips for future #POEcap students. Stay ahead of your work! It's hard but keeping an updated calendar and staying organized is critical. Also have fun with your internship and poster (and try using Canva)!

@itsonalease I say as early as possible! Even if it's just getting kids outside and allowing them to connect with nature, this will make it all the easier to understand more structured forms of environmental education later in life and it will make kids interested in learning more #POEcap

@kjkaylee_ I hadn't heard about this program, but it seems like a great way to encourage forms of eco-therapy and given all the mental and physical benefits of environmental education it likely helps! #POEcap

@YehDanica Generally as children grow older and are better able to grasp to complexity of the climate crisis they seem to grow more anxious. However, I was surprised in my literature review to even read quotes from kids in elementary school that were heartbroken over climate change #POEcap

@KatieJerauld2, in your research, which age demographic among children experienced the highest level of eco-anxiety? #POEcap

(6/6) Moving forwards, we should incorporate these tools within environmental education which can reduce anxiety, depression, and PTSD, as well as improve children's development. We should also provide students with age-appropriate resources for their learning #POEcap #ENVIR492

(5/6) After my internship, I conducted a literature review to find tools to alleviate students' eco-anxiety while learning. I found 3 main tools: adults should act as role models, we should teach students emotional resilience, and practice forms of eco-therapy #POEcap #ENVIR492

(4/6) As deliverables for my capstone project, I created a curriculum outline, a document detailing resources we used, a presentation on climate and biodiversity, and some activity sheets for students to follow #POEcap #ENVIR492

(3/6) For my internship, I worked with a local nonprofit called the Friends of the Conservatory @vpconservatory. I worked with 2 other capstone students and we researched environmental programs, interviewed environmental professionals, and surveyed teachers #POEcap #ENVIR492

(2/6) #Ecoanxiety is defined as considerable distress caused by ecological crisis. The reason I chose to study this was because I wanted to find ways to better support students' mental health so they can continue learning and participating in climate action #POEcap #ENVIR492

(1/6) To summarize my Capstone research, I focused on the connection between environmental education and eco-anxiety! As the effects of climate change intensify so do mental health concerns #POEcap #ENVIR492

@kim_nawon I met with my faculty advisor yesterday to do a run through of my presentation and that definitely helped ease some nerves! I'm mostly worried about getting my presentation nerves under control and answering questions #ENVIR492
