Well, #tothemoonexpo has been & gone now. I didn't attend but I had to write about how it hasn't gone down well. The gaming convention scene is well and truly in the toilet now & it's sad to see :(

Coming from a marketing background, I can see there is a lot of "up to x capacity" and "up to x developers" etc language on their website. The reality is, in order to advertise something, you have to explain what it aims to be, not what it currently is. 🧵

While To The Moon Expo sounds like it was an unmitigated disaster, it’s certainly given creators a lot of ammo for content. I can’t remember the last time I saw so many gaming creators produce this amount of content around a UK gaming event in this way before. As a creator-focused event, it’s delivered on something, then.

@pr_pirate Yeah, its the proactive thing to do right now. What can we learn as a community and sharing that experience. Tbh from London, it's faster to get to Ghent than it is to get back to my place in Cornwall! Did it a couple weeks ago!

Amazing write-up by Katie, and I'm going to work on one of my own about what to be mindful of with (new) events. Seeing all this To The Moon Expo stuff just makes me even more proud of what we did with 1UP in Belgium. We're a tiny country and the location of the event wasn't optimal, but we drew 3000 visitors in the first year and almost doubled that in the 2nd. (then 2020/COVID happened and killed it outright 😢) But you've got to admit: our vibes were impeccable! I'm still so proud of what we did there and would have loved to do it again. (check the vids!)
