Four years after losing their daughter, Stanford soccer captain Katie Meyer, Steve and Gina Meyer open up about grief, justice, and legacy. With the lawsuit settled, they’re working to expand Katie Meyer’s Law and protect students everywhere, so no family walks this road alone.

On March 1, 2022, Katie Meyer died by suicide. In 2023, @USWNT defender @naomi_girma wrote about her best friend: “There are friends, and then there are true friends.
Katie Meyer was a true friend, in every sense of the word. If you knew her, then I’ll never be able to do her justice. If you didn’t know her, then I’ll just have to try my best....
The truest friend I ever had. The most unapologetic, positive, caring person in the world. The first person to be open and talk about her feelings. The first person you’d turn to when you needed to talk about yours. And the last person you’d think would take her own life....
Her death shocked the entire Stanford campus, and the entire soccer world. For me, and for the rest of her close friends, it left a void in our lives that is so deep that it’s impossible to put into words.
Grief doesn’t work like you think it will. It’s not a straight line. It’s not a formula. It’s a mess.
Some days, it still feels like it just happened. Some days, you have a random memory, and you feel it all again so hard. When you lose a true friend, the hardest part isn’t the big moments. It’s actually the small ones. It’s the everyday, boring moments in life that they made so fun, and so funny, and so meaningful.” playerstribu.ne/Girma

Please consider about 4 mins of action to potentially make a huge impact for our college students across the country. Together we can get #KatieMeyersLaw #HR5545 implemented federally. Click the link on our homepage for your voice to be heard. Thank you.

During #AMHW2026 Kym had the honor of moderating a panel of dads that lost their collegiate athlete to suicide. There isn’t a script for these talks nor adequate words to describe their grief. They carry the unimaginable & still choose to help others carry less. Thank you for your honesty, leading with hope, love & turning your pain into purpose. Head to @AthletesForHope YouTube page to listen to the complete recording. ❤️❤️❤️ #mentalhealth

Four dads. Four stories of unimaginable loss & extraordinary love. Each lost a child, a collegiate student athlete, to suicide.
Kym had the honor to talk w/ them for the “Dads Panel” during Athlete Mental Health Week. They share their stories because they hope their journeys can save another family from experiencing the same pain.
These fathers showed up w/ open hearts, courage & profound grace. Their words are a reminder to athletes everywhere-at every level-asking for help & mental health support takes strength.
Grief doesn’t have an end point. Love doesn’t either. Thank you to these fathers for trusting us w/ what matters most-family, love, teammates & living w/ purpose.
