Today, I held a bilateral meeting in Kyiv with 🇺🇦 Foreign Minister @andrii_sybiha, followed by a joint press conference. I thanked Ukraine, President @ZelenskyyUa, and Minister Sybiha for the invitation. This is my first working visit to Ukraine, and I am here to emphasize that the Belarusian people support the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The regime has involved Belarus in this aggression. But Lukashenka is an usurper who does not represent Belarusians and serves the interests of the Kremlin exclusively. Belarus is not Russia, and Belarusians are not the regime. Belarusians stood with Ukrainians on Maidan and have been dying in the trenches since 2014. Thousands of Belarusians have spoken out against the war, and hundreds remain behind bars for supporting Ukraine. Today, we discussed further cooperation between Ukraine and the democratic forces of Belarus. For us, it is crucial that Ukraine sees a future free Belarus as a partner and neighbor, not a threat. We need more mutual trust, more contacts between people, experts, civil society, and democratic institutions. Putin and Lukashenka have done everything to destroy the friendly relations between our peoples, but we will definitely restore them. Our nations deserve a peaceful, European, and democratic future. And we must stand together to make it a reality.

Grateful to have a call from Vilnius today with Special Presidential Envoy @johnpcoale and DAS @ChrisWelbySmith. I conveyed my sincere appreciation to @POTUS and his team for securing the release of more than 500 political prisoners in Belarus. President Trump stated that the goal is to free them all, and I remain confident in the success of 🇺🇸 humanitarian efforts on this track.

“Under the Grey Sky” is not only the story of Katsiaryna Andreyeva and her husband, Ihar Ilyash. It is the story of thousands of Belarusians who have lived through fear, separation, prison, and injustice. Yesterday in Warsaw, I attended the screening of Mara Tamkovich’s powerful film together with Katsia, recently released from prison. Ihar remains behind bars. More than 20 journalists in Belarus are still imprisoned alongside him for telling the truth. Thank you to Mara and everyone who continues to tell about Belarus through art, film, and culture. We must keep speaking about political prisoners until they are all free.
