Avi Lewis is detrimental to New Democrats in the Prairies. He has shown little willingness to understand the central role that energy and agriculture play, not just in our economy, but as the foundation upon which many neighbourhoods have been built. These are more than industries. They are livelihoods, identity, and the backbone of entire regions across Alberta and Saskatchewan. Time and again, Avi Lewis has doubled down on positions that polarize rather than unite, signalling a clear disconnect from the lived realities of Canadians in the prairies. Alberta and Saskatchewan are distinct, complex, and essential to Canada’s future. Ignoring that, and failing to grasp the economic and cultural realities that define this region, comes at a cost. If the federal NDP is serious about rebuilding trust in Alberta and Saskatchewan, its leadership must be grounded in respect for the people, industries, and communities that make the Prairies and Canada thrive.
