Dave Zeglen is a longtime pro-union, pro-tenant, pro-Palestine, anti-ICE organizer backed by the Democratic Socialists of America — and his sights are set on Ann Arbor City Hall. jacobin.com/2026/05/zeglen…

“It is labor that gives a people the right to the land on which it lives, thus Judaism can advance no claim on Palestine. On the basis of the right of labor and of democratic self-determination, today Palestine does not belong to the Jews of Vienna, London or New York, who claim it for Judaism, but to the Arabs of the same country, the great majority of the population…in their argument the Zionists ignore completely the Arab population or treat it as a negligible factor.” - Karl Kautsky

The only thing that matters in Marxism is the identification of the historical necessity of the dictatorship of the proletariat

@mganj79 @Gattungswesen25 Kautsky also never described DotP as socialism — his model, inspired by Engels, was the Paris Commune (same as Marx). DOTP means the proletariat having veto power over society, socialism being the only mechanism through which such power is made concrete

I doubt l'll convince AES believers, but I'll explain to those on the fence: socialism =/= DOTP. Socialism is synonymous with lower phase of Communism, but DOTP is transition to that lower phase. DOTP overcomes class relations and value production. AES wasn't even in transition.
Commie Central ☭@commiecentral2

"I'm a socialist" - Cool, which socialist countries do you support? "There are no socialist countries" - Huh? What about Cuba, Vietnam, China, Laos or The DPRK? "Those are not socialist" - So all the members of their communist parties are not real marxists but you are "Yes"

Collective brain trust: any good sources on this? This has been my go to recc for a while but I admittedly haven’t been keeping up with the modern scholarship enough:

@donaldp1917 Do you have any recommendations for modern scholarship on how colonialism and related aspects like slavery brought wealth and development to the metropole while not necessarily turning a profit for the state? (Asking because I feel like the last part is a common argument)
