JD Vance served in the Iraq War.. came home.. and became one of Washington's sharpest critics of foreign military interventions.. said policymakers "lose sight of American interests in faraway wars".. built his entire political identity on being the anti-war guy.. and now the NYT is reporting he was the person inside Trump's inner circle most opposed to this war.. called it "a huge distraction of resources" and "massively expensive".. tried harder than anyone to stop it.. and it didn't matter.. the vice president of the United States couldn't stop his own president from starting a war.. this isn't a story about Vance.. this is a story about how little power the second most powerful person in America actually has.. the man who went to war in Iraq and swore it would never happen again just watched it happen again from inside the White House.. and couldn't do a thing about it
