Newly installed HSE boss Anne O’Connor has said she returned to take the top job because of her commitment to public healthcare. Asked why she left the relatively less stressful private sector to take on the post of HSE chief executive, she said: “I came back because I really care about public health services.” Ms O’Connor stepped in to the €402,156 HSE role three weeks ago after the retirement of former chief executive Bernard Gloster. She was one of the familiar HSE executives managing the early years of the Covid pandemic. overseeing operational issues such as hospitals and nursing homes. Not necessarily a fan of this. I think the ‘festivals’ with a few days of complete quality is better than a Group One on an otherwise poor card, if that’s the way it ends up being. Racing could do a lot more to promote these existing fixtures better.
