@DrDiGiorgio @anish_koka They are now “labor.” And as “labor,” there are emerging discussions (both hospitalists and C-suite) about hospitalists unionizing. I’m not at all sure that is a move in the right direction for patients or the healthcare system.

I know of a health system that eliminated all the local family doctors who used to admit/round on their patients in the hospital and replaced them with not-from-the-community hospitalists. Medical care has been transformed by the availability and supply of shift working hospitalists — and yet hospitals somehow still ran without them until very recently. Imagine if a large portion of the 60,000 hospitalists were instead staffing 1º care clinics ? We do not have a doctor shortage — we have a system that is working exactly as designed. And unless you cut off the cheap supply of non US Citizen labor that makes the system work, nothing will change.
Robert Berry, DO@txsportsdoc

If the large hospitals can replace American trained doctors with foreign trained, sponsored by hospitals, they can control their practice of medicine. Many states now don’t require passing USMLE or completion of a US residency. It’s a manufactured shortage. It’s also exploiting these foreign doctors. Americans need to be informed. When you go into a hospital, many of the Hospitalists are from this pool.

@anish_koka @DrDiGiorgio In my area, there are rumblings of the employee hospitalists wanting to unionize. I’m not feeling positive at all about the conversion of physicians to “labor.” It’s bad enough that the nurses are unionized now.

@Tablesalt13 @grok This is then phrased in a “you can choose” manner, and “making the best informed decision” and “lessening the burden on your loved ones. It’s sick- validating & promoting the idea to choose assisted suicide far too early in the life process.

‼️HOLY CRAP HERE IT IS @grok how much money would the government of Canada save if they euthanize old people 3 years before their natural death? OAS. CPP. and health care savings. Also, how much would doctors make from this?

@Tablesalt13 @grok I’ve been watching the show evolve on MAiD in Canada. It’s my professional opinion that like asking everyone at every sign in if they have an advanced directive, all providers are now being coached in asking/ discussing if the pt is “open” to MAiD. Esp older pts w/ chronic dz.

What if 9 million people took this time today out of their day to serve a neighbor, volunteer at church, make a meal for a sick person, clean up a city street, help a neighbor with yard work, feed the homeless…. Jesus, the only King, came to serve. Truly, imagine how much better our country would be if the actions of these protesters were to serve instead of hold a sign. Just imagine the change you can make by serving!! Holding a sign is not serving anyone but yourself and your own ego to feel good about yourself.

In 1995, a nurse broke hospital rules to place a newborn into her twin sister’s incubator. The baby was not expected to survive. Kyrie and Brielle Jackson were born 12 weeks early at a hospital in the United States. Each weighed roughly two pounds. They were placed in separate incubators, standard practice to prevent infection. Kyrie gained strength. Brielle did not. Three weeks after birth, Brielle went into critical condition. Her oxygen dropped. Her heart rate spiked. Her skin turned bluish-grey. Nurse Gayle Kasparian tried everything. She held her. She had her father hold her. She wrapped her in a blanket. Nothing worked. Kasparian remembered hearing about a practice used in parts of Europe but never tried in American hospitals. She placed Brielle into Kyrie’s incubator. Their father described what happened next: “She snuggled up to Kyrie and she was just fine. It was immediate. It was absolutely immediate.” Within minutes, Brielle’s oxygen levels were the best they had been since she was born. As she slept, Kyrie stretched her left arm across her sister’s body and held her. Photographer Chris Christo captured the moment. The image spread around the world and became known as “The Rescuing Hug.” Hospitals across multiple countries began placing premature twins together, a practice that had been resisted for decades. Both girls went home healthy. They are now 30.

@DoctorLemma It’s important to tell these stories of changes in practice in medicine. There isn’t enough room on the internet to discuss how many “absolutely scientific, definitely helpful” practices we have blindly done that turned out to be deadly, extremely harmful or horrific.

#MeghanMarkle failure of the day? Being a good daughter. Markle was born in Los Angeles CA on Aug 4, 1981 to Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland. They separated when she was 2, finalized the divorce when she was 5 or 6, but successfully co-parented until she was 9, at which time she went to live with her father full time until she was 18 and went to University. It’s not definitively known where Doria was for large chunks of time during these years. Markle’s father was a dedicated, loving parent who made sure she had all the advantages a child could have-private school education, including Hollywood Little Red Schoolhouse where tuition ranges from $22k for preschool to $30k for grades 4-6 and Immaculate Heart High School where current tuition is $27,000 a year. He took her on trips, camping, paid for acting classes, dance classes, supported all of her interests and doted on her. Her claims of poverty have been disputed-she was a fixture on set of Married With Children where Thomas was Lighting Director and by all accounts had a happy childhood where she thrived. But non of that matters to Markle-because when a pap (who worked with Markle in the past-coincidences don’t exist) approached Thomas to set up pap shots of him getting fitted for a suit, he accepted. Was that a dumb decision? Yes. But he wasn’t given any guidance or assistance, just thrown to the press. So while it was a silly and dumb choice, it hardly rose to the level of permanent estrangement and banishment-especially when Markle sets up pap walks all the time. Thomas did talk to the press out of misguided desperation and anger-again, he’s not media trained and was definitely taken advantage of-but does the Queen of Compassion care? After all the sacrifices her father made to help her get where she is, she can’t even be bothered to be human when he loses a leg. Markle is a crappy daughter and I hope and pray her children show her all the same kindnesses she has shown her father someday. You reap what you sow. #MeghanIsTheProblem #MeghanMarkleIsABully #MeghanMarkleIsAMeanGirl

@anish_koka @MaryBowdenMD It would be interesting to know how many of the patients specifically chose her because they wanted a “doctor who looked like them.” This DEI rationale is being used to admit unqualified/ lower qualified candidates “of color” to US medical schools.

The "dancing doctor" story is wild when you look at the resume. Dr. Windell Davis-Boutte: • BS from Xavier University (HBCU) • MD from UCLA School of Medicine • Dermatology residency at Emory under renowned derm chief Thomas Lawley • Board certified since 1997 Around 2018: 20+ videos posted publicly of herself dancing over unconscious patients, scalpel in hand, no mask, no gloves. Staff in scrubs as backup dancers. 100+ patients came forward with complaints. 1 case of Brain damage. Many more disfigured. The Georgia Medical Board intervenes to suspend her license. I have trouble believing the trouble started with her self-immolating videos in 2018.

🇺🇸 An Atlanta based plastic surgeonfaced multiple malpractice lawsuits for negligence after she was dancing and singing while performing surgery. One of the lawsuits comes from a family that claims the doctor left their mother brain damaged.
