Dan O’Brien is absolutely right. Ireland’s hard-working families and businesses are being hammered by crisis-era taxes that were never unwound, even as revenues have tripled and the public payroll and social spending have exploded by tens of billions with precious little to show for it in services or value for money. This is fiscal madness dressed up as “fairness.” It’s time we, who are gouged for it, stopped accepting it. We must fight, and fight hard, for serious, structural tax cuts in Ireland now; lower rates, real reform, and an end to the tax-and-spend culture that is holding Ireland back. Enough is enough.
Dan O'Brien@danobrien20

Cut income tax - today's @thecurrency column. Punitive personal taxes were introduced in Ireland 18 years ago to address a fiscal crisis that is long over. Last year the government took in almost €45 billion in personal income taxes, up from €15 billion in 2010. How has it used that three-fold increase (yes, that's a trebling) of income tax, USC and PRSI revenues? Annual social expenditure rose by €25 billion 2015-2025, when the economy was growing strongly. Having kept the lid on public sector pay from 2008-2016, when it stood at around €20 billion, it has since soared by €16 billion to €36 billion last year. What scrutiny there is of government spending is too focused on one-offs (hospitals and bike sheds). There is little examination of annual recurring spending, of almost €50 billion on social spending and the €36 billion spent on the public service pay bill. Both rise by additional billions every year, as does almost every other spending line. Ireland badly needs a Taxpayers' Alliance, because politicians are certainly not standing up for taxpayers. Across the political spectrum, parties all want ever more spending. None is calling for fundamental reform of one of the most punitive personal tax regimes in the world (ranked second worst in the OECD by the Tax Foundation).

UPDATE: Barryroe Oil & Gas field Larry Goodman’s company is to meet with Minister for energy Daragh O’Brien to overturn Govt ban on drilling. Goodman is also seeking a workaround license to drill an appraisal well. Estimates say 350million barrels lay beneath. Goodman has invested €100m+ in this. Opinion: The Govt has a chance here to negotiate a deal that could transform Ireland. They cannot let Green ideology get in the way. Negotiate a deal that works for everyone. Goodman is going to get paid but lower costs for Irish people is worth it. Do not f*ck this up.

"The National Children’s Hospital is ‘unlikely' to open this year, as the contractor has not completed the build after missing an 18th deadline, according to the chief executive of Children’s Health Ireland." If this is the 18th missed deadline, the previous 17th weren’t all that terminal, were they? independent.ie/irish-news/nat…

A very happy looking Ukrainian "Refugee" in Ireland. Travels home several times a year, driving a Tesla, free healthcare. Free accommodation, cash and residency. All paid for by the Irish taxpayer. How does a "Refugee" go "Home" several times a year? Its one giant scam.

Having been called a liar by Anthony Fauci for saying that "not one of the 72 vaccines mandated for children has ever been safety tested", RFK Jr. sued Fauci. After a year of stonewalling, Fauci's lawyers admitted that RFK Jr. had been right all along. "There's no downstream liability, there's no front-end safety testing... and there's no marketing and advertising costs, because the federal government is ordering 78 million school kids to take that vaccine every year." "What better product could you have? And so there was a gold rush to add all these new vaccines to the schedule... because if you get onto that schedule, it's a billion dollars a year for your company." "So we got all of these new vaccines, 72 shots, 16 vaccines... And that year, 1989, we saw an explosion in chronic disease in American children... ADHD, sleep disorders, language delays, ASD, autism, Tourette's syndrome, ticks, narcolepsy." "Autism went from one in 10,000 in my generation... to one in every 34 kids today."

And as always, half a decade on, the media catch up, having pushed this and gone after everyone warning of it. Ukraine is disgusting country whose elite see their own as expendable for a few quid, and is as fascist as Israel. That's where your money has gone, to make costs more.

If the Social Democrats want to talk about standards of debate, they might have thought to let me know before they let journalists know that they'd gone to the teacher. We didn't shout over female TDs. We shouted over Ministers. But I congratulate the Social Democrats on being able to tell the difference - I had genuinely thought they didn't know what a woman was. It is a bold new strategy which sees an opposition party filing a formal complaint because government Ministers were held to account. Not even their own Ministers. Someone else's. The Social Democrats remain the only party in Leinster House who would remind the teacher she forgot to assign homework. #fuelprotest #ireland

Last weekend, @davidmcw wrote a fantastic piece: "Is Ireland the worst run country in Europe?" Here on X, we already know the answer. But over at Irish Times, regular readers have no idea. Judging by the article, they think Ireland is run badly because of the Metro, Children's Hospital or Port Tunnel running over budget. The article doesn't even mention "Emergency Accommodation". In order to truly understand why "Ireland is the worst run country in Europe". You need to know how the Govt has spent over €15billion in 6 years. You need to know how: organised crime, people trafficking, corruption, off shore companies political influence, tax structures, the GAA, Wall Street bankers, runaway spending and total Govt incompetency, are the heart of all this. There is no other story like this in Irish Political Scandal History. Its truly the BIGGEST EVER. Maybe TOO BIG. Someone should definitely write a book on it.💡 @davidmcw ?

FF junior minister Niall Collins says the fuel protests have gone too far. Niall receives a taxpayer-funded tax-free payment of around €400 a week to cover his dodgy mileage claims. There are protesters who have to work a full week to earn what Niall gets just for his diesel.
