@JamesMelville You are correct that people need to be aware of the history, but this film is not the tool to inform people of said history. This is an (unfortunately) politicized and skewed narrative and ideological driven film, rather than providing a balanced historical insight.

I’ve just watched Palestine 36: So many people need a history lesson. October 7th wasn’t the start. It goes back a long long way. Imagine being a citizen to a place that lost status, sovereignty, human rights, freedom and land. And then for decades got hemmed in, encroached, destroyed and an appropriation of the land unchecked. Destinies of people who have lived there for generations completely torn up. Grief turns into rage. It would anywhere. But apparently it’s “antisemitic” to raise any concerns about this.

@bbccumbriasport on the subject of Carlisle being "difficult to watch", can you think of any teams in L2 / NL which arent difficult to watch? The style of football has changed throughout the leagues, its a lot more moderatly paced in modern football.....

@iancharris @MartinSLewis Please correct me if wrong, but the reduced standing charge was to be on a separate tariff offered by some suppliers? I was thinking more of a wholesale reduction to mitigate against (hopefully) a short term price rise.

@Keano1981 @MartinSLewis There is a reduction in the standing charge coming soon. It could and should be reduced further which would help those living in smaller houses / properties more in percentage terms.

How would the govt intervene to cut energy bills if needed? Its worth looking at the two previous domestic energy models we saw in recent years. 1. Liz Truss (as PM) reduce energy costs for all. The Energy Price Guarantee reduced bills by limiting the unit rates charged for gas and electricity, with the government saying this would keep (the then definition of a) typical household bill to about £2,500/yr. This was a very expensive route for the state, as it meant all bills were reduced, and by definition the biggest users got the biggest subsidies. Though it did mean everyone got helped. 2. Rishi Sunak (as Chancellor) flat help for all and targeted support. Before that happened there had already been support in place. It comprised a menu of help for different people across slightly different times. Roughly... - £400 grant for domestic electricity users paid over 6mths - £150 council tax rebate for those on Council Tax Band A to D (seen as a proxy for lower incomes) - £650 for those on certain means-tested benefits - £300 top-up for state pensioners - £150 payment for those on certain non-means-tested disability benefits. This was still costly, but not as much, as it was targeted, and the amounts were flat so lower users got the same help as higher. ---------- My suspicion is the current govt is more likely to look at the second version as a model for what it does (though it doesn't look like the payments spread would be as wide or as big)

@JamesMelville Southern Lebanon is already occupied by Hezbollah (and a few fringe groups). The Lebanese government has neither the resources nor will to drive them out, so Hezbollah have operated there unchecked.

Israeli minister calls for annexation of southern Lebanon. Shameful. Innocent Lebanese civilians are being killed. 1 million displaced from their homes. And now the threat of having their sovereignty and country stripped from them. A total loss of freedom and human rights.

@bbccumbriasport - James is 100% correct! Every time something goes wrong it's the same old 'Hughes out'. Some daft people just didn't want him here in the first place (for the same recycled reasons).

There are many false claims in this letter but let me address one specifically: that "Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation."   This is the same false claim that Democrats and some in the liberal media have been repeating over and over.   As President Trump has clearly and explicitly stated, he had strong and compelling evidence that Iran was going to attack the United States first.   This evidence was compiled from many sources and factors. President Trump would never make the decision to deploy military assets against a foreign adversary in a vacuum.   Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. The Iranian regime is evil. It proudly killed Americans, waged war against our country, and openly threatened us all the way up to the launch of Operation Epic Fury.   Iran was aggressively expanding their short-range ballistic missiles to combine with their naval assets to give themselves immunity – meaning they would have a degree of a capabilities that would give them immunity to hold us and the rest of the world hostage.   The regime aimed to use those ballistic missiles as a shield to continue achieving their ultimate goal – nuclear weapons.   The President, through his top negotiators, gave the regime every single possible opportunity to abandon this unacceptable course by permanently giving up their nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief, free nuclear fuel, and potential economic partnerships with our country.   But they would not say yes to peace because obtaining nuclear weapons was their fundamental goal.   President Trump ultimately made the determination that a joint attack with Israel would greatly reduce the risk to American lives that would come from a first strike by the terrorist Iranian regime and address this imminent threat to America’s national security interests.   All of this led to President Trump arriving at the determination that this military operation was necessary for U.S. national security, which is why he launched the massively successful Operation Epic Fury. The Commander-in-Chief determines what does and does not constitute a threat, because he is the one constitutionally empowered to do so - and because the American people went to the ballot box and entrusted him and him alone to make such final judgments. And finally, the absurd allegation that President Trump made this decision based on the influence of others, even foreign countries, is both insulting and laughable. President Trump has been remarkably consistent and has said for DECADES that Iran can NEVER possess a nuclear weapon. As someone who actually witnesses President Trump’s decision-making process on a daily basis, I can attest to the fact that he is always looking to do what’s in the best interest of the United States of America — period. America First.
Joe Kent@joekent16jan19

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

A good start. But just a start. If killing unborn children after 24 weeks should be illegal, then so should killing unborn children before 24 weeks. The state cannot play God by deciding when a human being becomes valuable enough not to be murdered in the womb. God invented humans; God gave humans their inherent value as humans; God decides when even the littlest unseen humans begin to matter: from the start. While many would see the idea of abolishing abortion as "a political impossibility" today, I hope and pray that @RestoreBritain_ will in time come to see that the same moral courage they have shown on so many other "politically impossible" issues, must be applied to abortion too. We are truly sick of moral half-measures. If unborn children are not real humans, then why not just allow people to kill them up to birth as if they were little more than a housefly? At least that would be consistent. But if they truly are humans created in God's image, then we have no right to declassify their human value at the behest of our personal or political convenience. If we are to be a decent society, we have a duty to the most vulnerable people among us. Right now, those little people are most in danger from the very laws that should be in place to protect them. This absolutely must change. I would love to see @RestoreBritain_ become the first major political party in British history to not only challenge the greatest moral injustice of our time, but to rid it from our country altogether, and set an example to other nations to follow.
Restore Britain@RestoreBritain_

Restore Britain would reverse recent changes that decriminalise abortion up to birth.
