According to eyewitness accounts, the suspects confronted the Bidvest security team. They demanded payment, warning that if their demands were not met, technicians would be prevented from carrying out essential maintenance work in Mamelodi. The situation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation between the alleged extortionists and security personnel. Video footage in our possession shows the altercation unfolding on site. In a further escalation, a generator intended to support the maintenance operation was also blocked from being deployed by the same group.
