And those who did returned carrying wounds that no statistic could ever measure. War has a pattern. It selectively consumes the very people a society needs most. The ones who would have raised families, driven economies, shaped culture, and sustained nations. What remains is not just grief, but a quiet, long-term erosion of vitality. To repeat that cycle in today’s world would not be strategy. It would be self-destruction disguised as necessity. Europe is already grappling with aging populations, declining birth rates, and shifting social dynamics. Another war would not just disrupt, it would accelerate a decline that is already unfolding beneath the surface. It would hollow out its future from within. This is why peace is no longer just a moral choice. It is survival. In the end, wars are not only fought on battlefields. They are fought in demographics, in memory, in the silent absence of those who never got the chance to live fully.
