@Cam_S1990 Ryan has shifted things to the next level on every sport, and I believe he'll bring a MLB team here the same way as he did the Coyotes too.

@tiffanee_dawn They've explored this same thing in numerous places. While I can see possibly Mexico City, or Vancouver, the cost of travel to Europe wouldn't be feasible. However, they could do it like MSL.

@davidjsmith1232 Not bad, but instead of a first, I'd package our two second round picks instead.

Using my thirty plus years at watching NBA teams, I've developed a model called the NPCI. It's a nine-pillar system that supports championship teams. I've included statistical tables illustrating two eras of Jazz teams. Notice I've included our current Jazz team and our statistically best team, the 97/98 team. Please note: the pillars are differ slightly since the eras are so different than they are today. Still, as you can see, we have a way to go. There are four areas which concern me and we must improve as soon as we can. They are Switchability, bench strength, the lack of defensive stoppers, and most importantly defensive versatility. To be clear, teams such as the Celtics, and Oklahoma City Thunder score a whopping 9.4 in this model. Can we compete with their loaded team? Yes, but it must start with this season. It's imperative we get a defensive stopper, someone who can come off the bench and ignite the defense. This is why I've called for us to select a defensive minded player. It all starts with this draft. This would do two things, improve the bench strength and the defense off it. Why is this important? Think of a basketball game as a game of Tuggle War. Our starters build a nice lead, but then our bench comes in. They not only lose the lead, they bury us and allow the opposite team to get on a roll. This has happened repeatedly over the last four years now. Though we have been rebuilding and yes, our main starters will be great this year. But our weak bench will drag us quickly down to earth. This we cannot have this, especially in the playoffs and considering the short timeline we have for a championship window to open, this has to be the priority. I know Ace and Cody will be much better players, but if we go through a weak off season, we'd be lucky to score a 6 as opposed to a possible 9+ rating in three years. Bottom line is there are more things than just stats and numbers that decide championships, but unless we get an extremely watered down corridor, as we had back in 2021, I'm telling you we'd have a snowballs chance in hell at winning anything other than maybe a playoff series or two. We must start now!

@KevinOConnor Yeah, and even more interesting is the fact they could have two picks in the top ten with the Jazz falling to 9th too.

NBA Draft Lottery night just got a lot more interesting now that the Clippers lost in the play-in. The Thunder own the Clippers pick, which will have the 11th (9.4% top 4) or 12th (7.1%) odds. Last year, that’s the slot the Mavs had to move up for Cooper Flagg. Can you imagine?

There's some truth to this. Utah has better goal differential than anyone in the Pacific. We have won more games than anyone in the Pacific. Their xGoals is 6th in the league and better than anyone in the Pacific besides Vegas.

@TuskedUp I don't think enough respect is out on Utah's name. I think they'll surprise some teams.

Random thought, I wonder if the Jazz make a priority of acquiring a vet role player that's been in a few playoff series. We could use it especially if KLove doesn't come back.

Ryan Smith will dissociate any BYU bias in him to do what's best for the Utah Jazz. Utah Jazz could have *easily* picked Egor Demin at #5 last year especially with all the pre-draft stuff going on w Ace Bailey + Egor going 8th, it wouldn't have been that far of a leap.

@SpencerKeele If I took your post to mean otherwise, then I apologize. But you may want to rethink the wording in it to make it clearer. I can see what you mean but have to read it several times to come to the same conclusion.

@Callystarr I'm not going to sanctimoniously give you a list, it is what it is. You're right. The Jazz did tank desperately last year and for the latter part of this. But the reason is unusually high draft prospects along with the way the league gives those odds.

@Shay21111669 @jsjjazzfan78 You misunderstood my statement. I wasn't implying that tanking doesn't lead to championships, but we're past that stage. The time is to cash in on the chips and take them to the banker, really build the team.

@jsjjazzfan78 @KeithShave48698 The fact that all 4 conference finals teams last season were products of tanking says you’re wrong about tanking not bringing championships.

If the Jazz don't get AJ or (I guess) DP... They should keep tanking to get the right player or throw all their assets at someone already in the league. It's a 2 player draft (actually, 1 player in my mind). I think there are other players who will be good, but none with top

@KeithShave48698 Castle gets to play next to Wemby. Williams is playing in the play in. I'm not saying there won't be good NBA players in this draft. But very few drafts have franchise/league changing players.

On the Zach Lowe podcast, Stan Van Gundy said the player who his teams had to prepare the most for was Rudy Gobert during his time with the Jazz. He said he guarded the paint so well that it allowed UTA's perimeter players to stay more on his 3-point shooters.
