@DCross_psycho9 Was back in Shenfield today visiting my parents who still live in Margaret Ave. Was shocked to see the Eagle & Child had gone. Fond memories of working as a pot washer in the kitchens as a teenager.
I found this today. A bet, my old friend Bill Bartlett placed 40 years ago . I assume Johnny Claridge coughed up. Bill was the Landlord at the Eagle and Child in Shenfield. The funniest man I’ve ever met.
It’s 14 weeks since I’ve been in London. I’m missing those creative sparks that I usually get walking through the city. So this morning I cycled the back route to Southend, stopping to take pictures of the architecture, getting my urban fix. It fuelled me & got my cogs whirring.
@IanSanders I did wonder! Seems to have been a lot of these huge container ships passing recently. I read somewhere that containers fall off ships everyday somewhere in the world! What an incredible statistic and I wonder why it can’t be prevented.
@TheCampagKid@johnflaherty11@merciancycles It’s superb, right up my street. I loved watching the tour in the 70s/80s because the bikes were so beautiful. Saw a guy just now on a classic bike, as he wizzed past all the polished chrome sparkled in the sun. Very special. 👌🚲
Is it me or does this mean nothing to anybody else. It’s probably a fantastic bike & no doubt will sell in the thousands. However there’s absolutely no bike building skills or individuality whatsoever. Most of parts are Trek branded anyway. I do wonder how it can be repaired 🤷♂️
@johnflaherty11 No, there’s no craftsmanship, just pure mass production. My 1969 @merciancycles Pro restored to original condition a few years ago. Just over 50 years old. I would like to see that Trek in 50 years time.
So in about 6-7 hours I past the point of being a grown-up & become a grown-old CampagKid. I’m 60 years old in less than a sunrise. Some time early tomorrow morning it’s my Birthday. What’s the first I will do, yes, you have already guessed - a ride on a Campag equipped bike. 😊
@LadyVelo You always have a great photo! Do you have a professional photographer following you around? 👍😊🚲 I recognise that location, back of Lon Bridge station near Guys hosp.
