@policy_uk I suspect that the owner is going through trauma or there is a legal dispute amongst the family

@policy_uk This does not look like it has ever been social housing. This was built as a private house. Has it be been bought by the council for some reason.

Props like this all over Zone 1/2… council houses in appalling condition sandwiched between prime properties occupied by professional classes paying huge taxes. The tenants can be MASSIVE problems for the neighbours/law-abiding. Why? Equality or smth

This is Dira’iya, in Riyadh, an impressive example of how a dusty wasteland on the edge of the desert can be transformed into a delightful pedestrian boulevard with cafes and shops all built in the traditional Saudi Nejdi style with sand-coloured stone topped with white.

@zatzi Perhaps you should write to the Dean & suggest some kind of scheme for local residents with proof of address…just an idea. @wabbey

£31 for “a moment to reflect” seems rather pricey. Growing up in Westminster, on rainy days I used to play in these cloisters for free, make brass rubbings of the wonderful inscriptions (the shop sold the wax crayons to do so, it was encouraged not illicit) and absorb the historic and peaceful atmosphere. Now a child’s ticket costs £14 and brass rubbings are banned. The Church of England seems to be happier being a money making museum than a cornerstone of our cultural and religious heritage. And with prices that high, no wonder they have to advertise for people to go.
Westminster Abbey@wabbey

The Abbey's cloisters are at their most peaceful in the early morning. This Lent, take a moment to reflect as you follow in the footsteps of the medieval monks of Westminster, exploring the cloisters accompanied by the trickling sounds of the fountain and the bells calling people to morning prayer. Conclude your walk in College Garden and listen to the beautiful sound of birdsong as the Abbey awakes to start a new day.

@boys_nicholas @GlasgowCC @PaulJSweeney Is there actually a good example of any council in the UK rebuilding historic architecture? Or whats the percentage of lost heritage buildings getting properly restored? When was the last time a city even erected a new neo classical building? They never do.

I don't know a single UAE/Dubai resident who is desperate to return to the UK at this time. The people wanting to leave are holidaymakers who have had flights delayed & have lives elswhere to return to. Most residents are just getting on with their lives without drama.

This isn’t lacework—it’s ironwork. The gate you’re seeing belongs to Dolmabahçe Palace (İstanbul), the Ottoman court’s 19th-century statement piece on the Bosphorus. 📷 Deniz Çağlasu

Quietly removed, the portraits at the National Trust's Beningbrough Hall disappeared without a word. Is great art too good for Yorkshire?

@RestoreTrustNT Why would you do that for? Ethnic cleansing is antiWhiteism so you are a racist against White people and history. Dispirited and philistinism.

@RestoreTrustNT This is why I cancelled our @nationaltrust membership...I would like to learn the history of the house, their owners, and staff...not the history that is politically correct...
